Henderson discussed schedule of time for presentation of plan and requested later
hearing for full discussion and questioning. Mayor Herkner agreed another meeting
should be scheduled for further consideration by the Council. After further
presentation of the design, the following points were noted for further discussion
by the Council:
- 1. Further discussion on design for Alameda -Woodside intersection,
particularly as to pedestrian crosswalks.
2. Location of traffic signals proposed at Alameda, Valota Road,
Hudson, Massachusetts and discussion of their design and locations.
3. Consideration for elimination of frontagge road at westerly end of
Woodside to avoid channelization from 4 lanes to 3 lanes in this
section. (Mr. Black warned of problem to be encountered on this
point as to easements which would have to be acquired)
4. Further discussion on this section as to parking lanes proposed
should frontage road not be eliminated, to allow more traffic lanes.
5. Width of sidewalks to be questioned as to possibility of reducing
maximum proposed of 9' to provide wider travel lanes.
6. Median barriers proposed on Woodside Expressway. (City Engineer read
communication from State Division of Highways reciting proposed
design for main intersections along Woodside, dated 12/9/66)
Richard Adams, resident in the Atherwood area, questioned
design for access to Woodside Expressway at Atherwood Avenue,
reciting problems now encountered.
City Manager replied as to how signalization proposed at Valota Road would cause
platooning of traffic and make access at this point easier than at present.
Mr. Harold Coehlo, of Coehlo, Lind, Roller, & Hapgood
Funeral Directors, 847 Woodside Road, questioned definite
plan depicted for Washington School section as he felt this
was to be further reviewed before plan set. He also expressed
vital concern of businessmen along Woodside as to left and
right turning channels proposed.
Al Miller, 1887 Woodside, questioned further details as to
property to be acquired from property owners for widening
Woodside.
Director of Public Works advised existing right of way is 661 and that 171 addi-
tional was required from each side of roadway to make a total of 1001. After
further discussion period as to design presented, and it becoming apparent that
further time should be afforded for both interested citizens and Council to ascer-
tain more of the facts, Mayor Herkner announced a further hearing on this subject
would be set by Council for February 28th if agreeable to Council.
It was suggested that questions be submitted in advance by those interested, in
order that answers would be explicit. It was also suggested design map be placed
in the City Hall for study by the public. (Memo 2/14/67)
City Manager reported further on the signalization proposed for Hudson and Wood-
side and advised State had indicated if signalization installed prior to widening
of Woodside Road, total expense would have to be borne by the City. He advised
plans still being studied of another alternative, for a temporary installation
with suspended cables over Woodside until permanent installation is made. He
stated in interim period additional patrols would remain at the Washington School
