Councilman Granger
questioned whether City had right to specify stations desired for CATV system.
Mr. Victor E. Sharar, Technical Director, of Peninsula
Cable Television Corp., explained Grade A and B contours
in San Mateo County and specifically for Redwood City.
City Attorney advised his understanding of FCC regulations specified system
would first have to carry all local stations as part of 20 channels in Grade A
contour and then Grade B contour would automatically be included thereafter, a
matter of establishing order of priority. Councilman Henderson asked whether
offer covered 20 channels at same price, and what additional charge was made for
more than one outlet per residence.
Mr. Sharar advised that $1 per month would be added for
each additional outlet.
Councilman Bury questioned installation charges, and was advised no charge from
power line or underground to subscriber vh ichever was available, but not possi-
ble to go underground if lines not available as a more costly innovation and
could not be done economically. Councilman Rosselli asked for further clari-
fication of actual charges to subscribers, and how soon equipment could be
installed and ready for operation after granting permit.
After further period of questions by Council, Councilman Granger moved that
information submitted by applicants be compiled by Staff and returned to
Council for a report within thirty days (Feb. 13th) seconded by Councilman Ros-
selli and carried. Kennett, 100 Arch Street, for variance to the Sidewalk
Ordinance to permit installation of concrete paving in parkway presented for
consideration. Staff report stated applicant requests permission to install
parkway strip paving along Arch Street in front of his medical building, the
concrete to have an exposed aggregate finish and interspersed with planting
spaces for trees and ground cover, providing better accessibility for people
parking along the curb.
Staff recommends variance be granted subject to approval of plans prior to con-
struction on exposed aggregate finish and tree species. Councilman Rosselli moved
to grant variance requested, subject to approval of Staff as recommended, seconded
by Councilman Keckley and carried. (MINUTE ORDER #67-4)
Mayor called a 10 minute recess, 10:45 p.m.
