487 <br />first, and it was expected total project would take some one and one-half years. <br />Mayor Herkner again mentioned petition protesting use of barriers and thought <br />perhaps this should be further reviewed, and to why barriers recommended. Coun- <br />cilman Keckley suggested some present might have changed their minds concerning <br />use of barrier after presentation just made by Staff considering safety factors. <br />— Mrs. Davis, of Davis-Sundberg, 666 Woodside Rd., admitted <br />she had signed petition but after hearing discussion on <br />this feature, now felt it good idea. <br />Al Miller, 1889 Woodside Road, questioned County area on <br />Woodside Road above Massachusetts. <br />Joe Repetti, of WOodside Road, questioned curb parking to <br />be left after right of way acquired and possibility of <br />reducing sidewalk width to provide additional parking. <br />Kent Detrick, Menlo Park, expressed concern for large <br />eucalyptus trees and whether they could be saved. (City <br />Manager advised all of these trees had to be removed.) <br />Resident at 2307 Union Ave. expressed concern for channeli- <br />zation of three lanes to two from Rutherford to Nimitz. <br />Mr. Repetti questioned proposed new utility placements, if <br />property owners would be involved as to costs. <br />Mayor Herkner asked that any other questions be asked of Staff after close of <br />the Council meeting. Councilman Rosselli stated main purpose of this meeting to <br />explore situation and suggested those present still interested in further meet- <br />ings particularly in County areas of project to follow County Engineer's sugges- <br />tion and request same. <br />Councilman Keckley recommended Staff further review possibility of cutting side- <br />walks back from 9 ft. to 7 ft. if utilities are to be underground. After dis- <br />cussion as to proper action to take at this time, Councilman Henderson moved to <br />accept report of the Staff as modified with recommendations relating to further <br />consideration given to fencing on barrier in Washington School area, reduction of <br />sidewalks, and undergrounding of utilities, seconded by Councilman Keckley. <br />Councilman Rosselli indicated his opposing any Council action on this project <br />tonight to give any indication of its being finally approved, although agreed <br />a fine presentation had been made, but felt further meetings should be held and <br />a decision made by the County. Councilman Bury indicated his favoring motion if <br />intention of motion to be that of accepting the report and favoring further study <br />of the recommendations made for modifications. Councilman Henderson restated her <br />motion to state explicitly that Council accept report and recommendations of the <br />�-- Staff as presented with modifications as indicated by Council for further study <br />relating to possibility of 7' sidewalks, immediate fencing in front of Washington <br />School, modification of barrier at Orchard Avenue section, undergrounding utilities <br />with lighting, and to encourage the State to set no more than a 35 mile per hour <br />I` <br />speed limit. <br />Mayor Herkner suggested a motion be made unanimously if possible to accept report <br />and all modifications suggested be referred to Staff.
