412
caused by street repair work conditions;
(3) Peter Carini, on behalf of Frank
Carini, a minor, for personal injuries alleged to have been caused from de-
fective gymnasium equipment, denied and referred to insurance carrier, on motion
of Councilman Petersen, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried.
(MINUTE ORDER #68-52A, 52B, 52C)
COMMUNICATIONS:
U. S. Conference of Mayors information data concerning
conference to be held in Chicago June 12-15 (copy sub-
mitted to Council)
Copies of following submitted to Council at request of
Mayor Herkner: Report to all Mayors of San Mateo County
from Mayor Herkner and Mayor Murray, as representatives
of the Council of Mayors to ABAG Executive Committee,
concerning Executive Committee Meeting of ABAG held on
February 15, 1968, concerning recent embezzlement of
ABAG funds. (It was noted second page of communication
missing from copies submitted to Council. Mayor Herkner
also asked that copy of letter from ABAG's auditing firm
be included when communication is rerun for Council.)
Mayor Herkner further detailed facts of this matter and of meeting which he
had attended as member of the Executive Committee, and also advising this
matter had now been referred to the Grand Jury. Question raised concerning
advisability of asking that a review might possibly be in order of City's
accounting procedures to assure that all was in order and a similar situation
could not occur as that which had happened to ABAG funds.
Question was also asked whether any Federal Funds of ABAG which might have
been available to Redwood City from request for Open Park Space funds might
have been included in the missing funds. City Manager advised this request
had not as yet been granted to Redwood City. Councilman Bury expressed his
complete confidence in financial procedures, referring to the thorough audits
by Uhlenberg & Co., and our system of checks and balances.
City Manager concurred with Councilman Bury's statement, and briefly reviewed
the safeguard procedures on handling of City's funds.
Councilman Rosselli requested permission to attend Association of U. S. Army dinner
to be held in San Francisco on March lst, and for permission to attend the
Council of Mayors meeting on Friday night, February 23rd. In reply to question-
ing on reason for membership in the Association of U. S. Army, Councilman
Rosselli advised former City Manager had thought this organization membership
of value to the City and had authorized the membership which had been continued
since that time.
Councilman Petersen moved that Councilman Rosselli be authorized to attend
both meetings, but that Staff make a note to check the Association of U. S.
Army membership and report during budget time whether it was recommended
that it be renewed, seconded by Councilman Bury and carried.
ae 19'60
(MINUTE ORDER
#68-53)
