422
Councilman Rosselli moved to accept Staff recommendation as well as that of
the Park and Recreation Commission, that City not purchase the Redwood Swim
& Tennis Club, seconded by Councilman Bury.
Mr. Elmer Griffin, real estate agent, advised he had
sold the Club to Mr. Denevi, and his group, and had
also communicated with all of Council concerning the
sale now being discussed. He also stated there
seemed to have been a discrepancy concerning purchase
price as the price was $275,000 not the $250,000 being
quoted. He also stated Club's record of hardship due
mainly to lack of a liquor license.
Mayor Herkner advised that prohibition of a liquor license was a condition of
the Use Permit originally granted to the Club for its operation. After ques-
tioning on intent of motion to accept recommendations made for not purchasing
this Club and whether this meant it be tabled or a permanent decision,
Councilman Rosselli moved that motion be amended to state that Council ac-
cepted recommendations of Staff and Park and Recreation Commission and
rejected the consideration for purchase of the Club, seconded by Councilman
Bury.
In reply to questioning as to how this subject had been broached, City Manager
reported he had been contacted by Mr. Griffin who represented himself as
having a sixty-day exclusive option for sale of the property, and after several
meetings, he had made his report to the Council, and Council subsequently had
referred the matter to the Park and Recreation Commission for consideration.
He advised meetings before City's public bodies were a matter of public interest
and resultant publicity not possible to control. Councilman Granger moved that
this matter be only tabled. No second to motion.
Motion to reject the sale carried unanimously on roll call vote.
