4-35
signing could be done for major thoroughfares connecting
directly to the Freeway and if "Marine World Parkway" is
approved by the Council. Division of Highways had agreed
to provide such signing on Bayshore Freeway before open-
ing of Marine World project on July 4th.
Councilman Petersen moved to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 5631 DESIGNATING PORTION OF
RALSTON AVENUE EXTENDING EASTERLY FROM BAYSHORE FREEWAY TO BRIDGEWAY PARKWAY
AS MARINE WORLD PARKWAY, seconded by Councilman Rosselli.
In reply to questioning as to procedures for naming new streets, City Manager
explained street names appear on the subdivision maps submitted for Council
approval of the street names thereon.
He also explained recommendation for naming of Marine World Parkway to Bridge -
way as requested at this time due to development planning not being completed
beyond this point. This portion now requested for official naming would sat-
isfy criteria of Division of Highways to make possible valuable indentifica-
tion signing on Bayshore where needed for Marine World purposes. Motion carried
on roll call vote, Councilman Keckley being noted absent.
Councilman Rosselli moved to introduce Ordinance repealing Section 20.97.1-5 of the
Code of the City of Redwood City relating to parking on "E" Street, seconded
by Councilman Bury. Staff report stated a petition had been received contain-
ing signatures of 24 residents in the 300 block on "E" Street requesting park-
ing restrictions be repealed. Petition was read by City Clerk. Councilman
Rosselli noted that these parking restrictions had originally been placed on
this street at the request of the residents.
Mr. Wilford C. Trevor, 350 "E" Street, admitted original
restrictions on parking had been instigated at the request
of his neighborhood after numerous meetings with City
Staff in order to solve problems relating to Circle Star
Theatre parking, but that it had been found these restric-
tions had worked too much to the disadvantage of residents
themselves.
City Manager advised that Staff recommended parking restrictions be removed
inasmuch as this had been first requested by residents concerned, and if now
considered ineffective, no reason to continue enforcing such a restriction.
Deputy Police Chief advised their Department had no objection to parking re-
strictions being removed since enforcement has been difficult. Motion carried.
Request for implementation of Stage VII, final test stage of the Downtown Traffic Study.
City Manager reported this final stage would return Broadway to two-way opera-
tion with one lane in each direction, left turn channelization being permitted
at Winslow, Hamilton, Jefferson, midblock between Jefferson and Main, to serve
the parking lots, Main and Walnut Streets.
Through traffic westbound on Broadway as in the last stage via Spring (one way),
Walnut (one way), Marshall (one way west of Winslow) and Arguello (one way) back
to Broadway.
East bound Broadway traffic on Broadway will be routed via Winslow (one way)
Marshall, and Maid Streets (one way) back to Broadway.
PVT 12 '68
