FIRST ELECTION: <br />"The present council shall provide for the <br />holding of the first election of officers under this <br />charter and shall canvass the votes and declare the <br />results thereof." <br />"SECTION 96. CHARTER EFFECTIVE: <br />"For the purpose of electing two (2) additional <br />✓ Councilmen, as herein provided, this Charter shall <br />go into effect upon its approval by the Legislature. <br />For all other purposes it shall go into full force and <br />effect from and after the seating of the Council of <br />seven (7) herein provided for. within ninety (90) <br />days after the qualification of such two additional <br />Councilmen, the Council shall appoint a City Manager, <br />as herein provided." <br />Further, the Council of the City of Redwood City hereby <br />proposes, on its own motion, to amend the Charter of the City <br />of Redwood City, by amending Section 47b thereof, to read as <br />follows: <br />j "SECTION 47b. ORGANIZATION: TERMS OF OFFICE: <br />"Members of the Board shall hold office for a <br />term of five years, except in the case of a vacancy, <br />in which event the appointment shall be for the <br />unexpired term. Board members in office at the time <br />this section takes effect shall continue in office <br />until the end of their respective terms. <br />"The Board shall elect a president, vice-president <br />and a secretary. The Board shall make provision for <br />the time, place and conduct of its meetings, which <br />meetings shall be open to the public." <br />(a) Said Charter amendment proposal shall be submitted <br />to the electors of the City of Redwood City at the general <br />municipal election to be held in the City on April 9, 1968, <br />in the form ✓ f a proposal to amend said Charter by deleting <br />✓ ✓ ✓ <br />Sections 48f, 93 and 96 thereof, and by amending Section 47b <br />thereof. On the ballots and on the voting machines to be used <br />at said general municipal election, in addition to all other <br />matters required by law to be printed thereon, shall appear <br />the following: <br />- 7 - <br />
