Section 4.0— fnvironmental Setting anti Discussion of Irnpacts <br />4.17 UTILITIES AND SERVICE SYSTEMS <br />4.17.1 Existinu Settin-a <br />Utilities including electricity, natural gas, water, sanitary sewer, and solid waste are currently <br />provided to the project site. <br />4.17.1.1 Applicable Plans, Policies, and Regulations <br />Assembly Bill 939 <br />Assembly Bill 939 (AB 939) established the California Integrated Waste Management Board (now <br />CalRecycle). AB 939 required all California counties to prepare integrated waste management plans <br />and all municipalities to divert 50 percent of the waste stream by the year 2000. <br />California Green Building Standards Code <br />In January 2010, the State of California adopted the California Green Building Standards Code, <br />which established mandatory green building standards for all buildings in California. The code <br />covers five categories: planning and design, energy efficiency, water efficiency and conservation, <br />material conservation and resource efficiency, and indoor environmental quality. These standards <br />include a mandatory set of guidelines, as well as more rigorous voluntary measures, for new <br />construction projects to achieve the following specific green building performance levels: <br />Reducing indoor water use by 20 percent. <br />Reducing wastewater by 20 percent. <br />• Recycling and/or salvaging 50 percent of nonhazardous construction and demolition debris. <br />• Providing readily accessible areas for occupant recycling. <br />City of Redwood City Urban Water Management Plan <br />The City of Redwood City Urban Water Management flan identifies how the City will support future <br />planned growth. This includes identification of new water supplies, conservation, use of recycled <br />water, and compliance with the City's Green Building Ordinance. <br />City of Redwood City Sewer System Management Plan <br />The City of Redwood City Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) describes the City's wastewater <br />collection system management activities. The purpose of these activities is to: <br />1. Maintain and improve the condition of the collection system. infrastructure, <br />2. Control infiltration/inflow (UI) and provide appropriate sewer capacity, and to <br />3.
