GEOLOGY AND SOILS
Would the project:
c) Seismic -related ground failure,
including liquefaction?
d) Landslides?
2) Result in substantial soil erosion or
the loss of topsoil?
3) Be located on a geologic unit or
soil that is unstable, or that would
become unstable as a result of the
project, and potentially result in
on- or off-site landslide, lateral
spreading, subsidence, liquefaction
or collapse?
4) Be located on expansive soil, as
defined in Table 18-1-B of the
Uniform Building Code (1994),
creating substantial risks to life or
property?
5) Have soils incapable of adequately
supporting the use of septic tanks or
alternative wastewater disposal
systems where sewers are not
available for the disposal of
wastewater?
4.6.3 Geoloeic and Soil Impacts
Section 4.0 — Environmental Setting and Discussion of Impacts
Less 'Than
Potentially Significant Less Than Beneficial Information
Significant With Significant No Impact
hupact Mitigation Impact Etnpact Source(s)
Incorporated
❑
❑
❑
®
❑
1,8,9
❑
❑
❑
®
❑
1,8,9
❑
®
❑
❑
❑
1,8
❑
®
❑
❑
❑
1,8
❑ ❑ ❑ ® ❑ 1,8
❑ ❑ ❑ ® ❑
As previously discussed at the beginning of Section 4. 0, on December 17, 2015, the California
Supreme Court issued an opinion in "CBIA vs. BAAQMD" holding that CEQA is primarily
concerned with the impacts of a project on the environment and generally does not require agencies
to analyze the impact of existing conditions on a project's future users or residents unless the project
risks exacerbating those environmental hazards or risks that already exist. Nevertheless, the City
has policies and regulations that address existing conditions affecting a proposed project, which are
also discussed below.
4.6.3.1 Seismicity and Seismic Related Hazards Impacts (Checklist Question I a — d)
The project site is not within an Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zone, and there are no known faults
crossing the project site. For these reasons, the likelihood of fault rupture on the site is low. The
project site is located in a seismically active region and strong ground shaking would likely occur at
the project site during the life of the project. The potential for liquefaction, liquefaction induced
differential settlement, and lateral spreading is low. The project shall be designed and constructed in
City of Redwood City 42 Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration
Sandpiper Elementary School Facilities Expansion November 2016
