Resolution supporting Proposition 1A, "Protection of Local Government
Revenues," a ballot initiative on the November 2, 2004 statewide ballot to restrict
the State legislature's ability to take local government funding. (214)
Mayor Ira explained that Proposition 1A was a compromise that was designed
between the League of California Cities and Governor Schwarzenegger that
agrees to endure two more years of painful revenue losses, where $1.3 billion in
local funds are diverted to the state in each of those years. In return, a
constitutional guarantee would be in place that this will not occur again. He urged
support by the community of Proposition 1A and voting no on Proposition 65
which had already been placed on the ballot prior to this compromise. This does
not increase taxes or take away any funding.
Council Members urged support of Proposition 1A.
CITY COUNCIL AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
JOINT MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 23, 2004
PAGE 4
MINUTES Book No. 60
Page No. 302
