Solder and Sweat Joints. <br /> Joints in copper tubing shall be made by the <br /> appropriate use of approved brass or copper fittings. <br /> Surface to be joined by soldering shall be cleaned <br /> bright by manual or mechanical means. The joints shall <br /> be properly fluxed with an approved noncorrosive type <br /> flux and made up with approved solder. All solder and <br /> fluxes shall be manufactured to approved standards. <br /> Solder containing more than 0.20 percent lead is <br /> prohibited for joints and fittings in any construction <br /> of a potable water supply system or any user <br /> pipelines.'" <br /> "Section 9.85. Section 1004(a) of the Plumbing Code is <br /> hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> "'Section 1004.5 ( a) Water pipe and fittings <br /> shall be of brass, copper, cast iron, galvanized <br /> malleable iron, galvanized wrought iron, galvanized <br /> steel, or other approved materials. Asbestos-cement, <br /> CPVC, PB, PE, or PVC water pipe manufactured to <br /> recognized standards may be used for cold water <br /> distribution systems outside a building. Metallic <br /> piping shall not be used underground in those areas <br /> underlain by younger bay mud (see map published by <br /> Redwood City Building Division for approximate <br /> locations) .
