<br /> MSR: yc: 1/22/79 RR <br />to time be amended. <br /> " , (b) Approved automatic sprinkler systems shall <br />include a waterflow detecting device, and valves controlling <br />such systems, excepting underground gate valves with <br />roadway boxes, and shall be supervised open by a monitoring <br />device or devices. Waterflow and monitoring devices shall <br />operate on a continuous basis, to provide immediate <br />notification of any activation of such systems either <br />to a central station as described in the National Fire <br />Protection Association, Pamphlet No. 71, as it now exists <br />or as it may from time to time be amended, or to the <br />Redwood City Fire Department. <br /> " , (c) Notwithstanding the provisions of this Code <br />or the provisions of any other Codes of the City of <br />Redwood City, approved automatic sprinkler systems shall be <br />installed in those buildings or structures: <br /> '" (1) The total floor area of which is 7,500 square <br /> feet or more; <br /> " , (2) Which are 50 feet or more in height as that <br /> term is defined in Section 409 of the Uniform <br /> Building Code, 1976 Edition; or <br /> " , (3) Which are four (4) stories or more irrespective <br /> of height. <br />EXCEPTION: Each portion of a building or structure separated <br />by one or more area separation walls may be considered a <br />separate building or structure provided the area separation <br />walls meet the following requirements: <br /> (1) Area separation walls shall be without <br /> openings and shall be not less than <br /> four-hour fire resistive construction in <br /> types I, II-F.R, III and IV buildings <br /> and not less than two-hour fire resistive <br /> construction in types II, One-hour, <br /> II-N or V buildings, as these types are <br /> defined in the Uniform Building Code, <br /> 1976 Edition; <br /> -14- <br /> --". <br />
