<br />Attachment 11811 <br />Redwood City Public Library <br />Graffiti Free Zone Action Plan <br />.. Declare the Redwood City Public Library a Graffiti Free Zone by <br />Resolution of the City Council. <br />· Completely eradicate all graffiti and other marks of vandalism from <br />the Main Library and all branches. <br />· Remove all damaged furniture from the public area until it can be <br />cleaned and restored; post signs to say why the furniture is missing. <br />· Track costs to accomplish the clean-up; equate costs to specific <br />needed items for which the City or Library might have used the money, <br />such as videos, CDs, etc. Publicize. <br />· Meet with all staff to establish responsibilites for surveillance, behavior <br />control and police reporting. Hire additional monitors, if necessary. <br />· Prepare press releases to announce City Council action, keep press <br />informed of activities and successes. <br />· Prepare and distribute flyers and bookmarks in the library which will <br />educate both youths and adults. <br />· Create Gr~e Zone buttons for staff to wear and to distribute at <br />schools, clas istit, summer reading club, etc. <br />· Create a pledge to be signed by parents and children when applying <br />for a library card. <br />· Hold a poster contest in conjunction with the Recreation Department <br />summer program; present awards at a City Council meeting; post posters <br />around the Library. <br />· Work with the RCPL Youth Advisory Committee to publize the problem <br />and to create solutions. <br />· Call a Peninsula Library System Forum to share solutions. <br />· Coordinate all efforts with the Pride and Beautification Committee. <br />· Establish partnerships with schools to get youth involved in planning <br />and to educate youth. Contact principals and teachers; provide notices <br />to parents and students through the schools. <br />T'" <br />
