LSA ASSOCIATES, INC.
SEPTEMBER 2016
ROCKETSHIP REDWOOD CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROJECT
INITIAL STUDY/ MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION

P:\RWC1401B Rocketship School\PRODUCTS\IS-MND\Public\Rocketship Public Review 09-29-16.docx (09/29/16) PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT 109
As such, the proposed project would be served by an existing landfill with substantial remaining
capacity. New landfill facilities would not need to be constructed to serve the proposed project.

During construction activities, a minimum of 50 percent of construction waste would be recycled and
the school would install recycling bins throughout the campus to collect recyclables including paper,
plastic and glass. Project-generated waste is not anticipated to adversely affect landfill capacity and
would have a less than significant impact on landfill services. Therefore, the proposed project would
result in a less-than-significant impact with regard to waste generation.

g) Comply with federal, State, and local statutes and regulations related to solid waste? (Less-
Than-Significant Impact)

The proposed project would be required to comply with federal, State, and local waste reduction and
recycling regulations, particularly those contained in the California Integrated Waste Management
Act of 1989 and Article XI of the Municipal Code, Recycling and Salvaging of Construction and
Demolition Debris, which requires the diversion of a minimum of 60 percent of total generated C&D
debris tonnage and 100 percent of inert material from a project from disposal in a landfill.134

In addition, as noted in Section XVI.f, the amount of operational solid waste generated by the
proposed project would not exceed the capacity of any the landfills that would serve the proposed
project. The increase in solid waste from implementation of the proposed project could be
accommodated by the existing landfills’ permitted capacities and would thus constitute a less-than-
significant impact. Therefore, the project would not be expected to conflict with applicable solid
waste regulations.

134 Redwood City, City of, 2014.
