CULTURAL RESOURCES <br />The proposed project could <br />uncover previously unknown <br />archaeological resources during <br />site preparation and grading <br />activities. <br />CUL-1a: Prior to the issuance of a grading permit for the <br />project site, the Redwood City Planning, Housing, and <br />Economic Development Department shall confirm that the <br />project sponsor has required all construction crews to <br />undergo adequate training for the identification of federal or <br />State-eligible cultural resources, and that the construction <br />crews are aware of the potential for previously undiscov- <br />ered archaeological resources, including human remains; of <br />the laws protecting these resources and associated penalties; <br />and of the procedures to follow should they discover cultural <br />resources or human remains during project-related <br />work. <br />Prior to issuance <br />of grading permit <br />Project Applicant Redwood City <br />Community <br />Development <br />Director <br /> CUL-1b: Should an archaeological resource be encountered <br />during project construction activities, the construction <br />contractor shall halt construction within 50 feet of the find <br />and immediately notify the City of Redwood City and the <br />County of San Mateo. Construction activities shall be <br />redirected and a qualified archaeologist, in consultation with <br />the City and County, shall: 1) evaluate the archaeological <br />deposit to determine if it meets the CEQA definition of a <br />historical or unique archaeological resource and 2) make <br />recommendations about the treatment of the deposit, as <br />warranted. If the deposit does meet the CEQA definition of <br />a historical or unique archaeological resource, then it shall <br />be avoided to the extent feasible by project construction <br />activities.
