Member cities are also <br /> expected to promote the use of conflict resolutiœ sezvices through city staff and in the <br /> community. <br />H. Recruitment and training of community volunteen: PCRC will develop and maintain <br /> a pool of trained volunteer mediators, case developers and facilitators to serve the conflict <br /> resolution needs of the community. As a result, a number of community members will <br /> become skillful in the interest-based approach to conflict resolution. PCRC volunteel'S complete <br /> a minimum of 25 hours of ttaining, according to guidelines which govern programs receiving <br /> support from the Dispute Resolution Trust Fund established within the County. <br />I. Ongoing skill development for volunteen: PCRC will offer regular opportunities for <br /> volunteers to improve and enhance their conflict resolutiœ skills. 'Ibere will be evening and <br /> weekend opponunities fŒ learning and ¡ncticing advanced mediation, case development and <br /> facilitation skills, as well as presentation of rela1ed information ( e.g. landlord tenant law, <br /> communication skills, multi-cultural differences which impact conflict resolutiœ.) Volunteers <br /> also are invited to bi-monthly "brown bag" discussiœ groups, where specific topics related <br /> to mediation/conflict resoIutiœ are addressed and regularly scheduled Media1Œ Roundtable <br /> Discussions. <br />J. Training for local community members: PCRC will offer local residents a variety of <br /> educational opportunities which will enhance understanding fA the inteleS1-based apprœch to <br /> conflict resolution. These opportunities include presentations to local community groups about <br /> inJereSt-based conflict resolution and introductay conflict resolution sIålls development <br />K. Discounted Connict Resolution Services: If the City , residents or loca1 organizations <br /> want to utilize additional conflict resolution services offered by PCRC, they will receive a 20% <br /> discount on the fees charged to residents and Œganizations Iocated in non-œnttact cities. <br /> ...............,1'1'..................... II II. r ".. <br /> Special Conniet Resolution Training and Professional Services, Available for <br /> a Fee, through the PCRC: <br /> Specific charges will be defined for requests fŒ "specialized services" not included in the city's <br /> contraCL Estimates of total charges for conflict resolution services in a specific case will be <br /> provided by PCRC when the service is being arranged. These charges will be based on the number <br /> of hours involved in providing the service. <br /> Group Facilitation: A neutral third .-ry assists a group of people to achieve their goals <br /> within a structured meeting or meetings. These goals may include identification of concerns and <br /> underlying intereSts, clear communication of differing opinions, development of a systematic, <br /> intezest-based approach to problem solving. <br /> Special Trainings: PCRC offers orientations to city staff about the mediation program and <br /> its services as part of the basic contract. In additioo, there are training opportunities for <br /> supervisory personnel, public contact employees and depør1ment managers which include theory <br /> and practice of interest-based conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills. <br /> Connid Assessment/Consultation: PCRC can assist cities, as well as local community <br /> organizations/groups to assess specific conflict situations, analyze concerns of stakeholders and <br /> develop strategies for ~active and interest based conflict resolutioo. PCRC utilizes its staff, <br /> volunteers, professional mediatŒs and local representatives in this assessment process. The <br /> conflict assessment prùCeSS usually involves third party neuttal contact with stakeholders to gather <br /> input and provide information about inaerest-based conflict resolution. <br /> 5 <br /> - <br />
