ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br />a. Joseph Steinfeld, owner of Antique Alliance at 850 Main Street, advised the <br />Council of the conditions on Main Street near his store, complimented <br />Redwood City on its good traffic circulation and suggested the Council not <br />be so concerned with low income housing and concentrate on condominiums and <br />moderately priced apartments. <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Greenalch determined it to be the consensus of the Council <br />that City Manager Smith and Assistant City Manager Jean continue to work <br />with Mr. Steinfeld on his concerns about Main Street. <br />MEMO 9/12/89 <br />b. The following people spoke in favor of adopting a resolution tonight <br />authorizing the City to join the PERS medical plan in time for coverage to <br />begin October 1, 1989 one day after ABAG coverage terminates: <br />Tito Alvarez, Chapter Chairperson of Local 715, SEIU <br />Joe Brenner, Field Representative of Local 715, SEIU <br />Mary Spore - Alhadef, Redwood City Library, member of the Joint Labor Health <br />Care Committee <br />City Attorney Dave Schricker explained that state law prohibits a Council <br />from taking action on items not on the agenda, with few exceptions, and the <br />agenda must be finalized and posted at least 72 hours in advance of the <br />meeting. Mr. Schricker described the need for specific wording in <br />amendments to the existing Memoranda of Understanding with the four <br />bargaining units authorizing the City to join the PERS medical program. <br />City_ Manager Smith advised a meeting will take place on September 12, 1989 <br />to discuss the appropriate wording for the amendments and this information <br />would be available to everyone on September 13, 1989. <br />Council advised that Bay Pacific and Kaiser Health Plans were still in <br />effect and all City employees have access to those two plans. <br />CONSENSUS: Mayor Greenalch determined it to be the c <br />to stand ready to authorize participation in the PERS <br />amendments to the existing Memoranda of Understanding <br />approved by the City Attorney and all four bargaining <br />is necessary to expedite this procedure. <br />----------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />ansensus of the Council <br />medical plan after <br />have been reviewed and <br />units and to do what <br />MEMO 9/12/89 <br />---------------- - - - - -- <br />a.
