2. Police Chief Daniel Nelson of East Palo Alto addressed the Council describing <br />the situation last Spring when he asked for assistance from neighboring law <br />enforcement officials to prevent the escalation of violence during the summer <br />months. Chief Nelson advised the need for a regional approach to the crime <br />situation in East Palo Alto as the majority of violent acts involved <br />non - residents, and reported on the overwhelming success of the operation. <br />Chief Nelson thanked Redwood City Police Chief Tony Guardino and his <br />officers, and thanked the Redwood City Council for their support. <br />Mayor Greenalch announced that the Redwood City Police Officers had just <br />given Chief Guardino an overwhelming vote of confidence and that the Council <br />also thanked Chief Guardino for his efforts. <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />3. PUBLIC HEARING - application of D.E.C. Corporation to rezone 1.34 acres from <br />R -4 to R -5 to allow a 63 -unit residential condominium facility. <br />Report: Redwood City Planning Commission, December 11, 1989 <br />Charles Jany, Senior Planner, presented the staff report. <br />Mayor Greenalch declared the public hearing open at 7:54 p.m. and invited <br />anyone who wished to speak to do so. <br />Dennis Siden, representing D.E.C. Corporation, advised the project would be <br />sensitive to its neighborhood which is the historical district of Redwood <br />City; that the one historical home on the block D.E.C. wants to develop is to <br />be sold for $1 to a resident who will move it to another location; and <br />introduced John Stewart of John Stewart Associates and Architect Ellis <br />Soichet who displayed site elevation and top view drawings of the Victorian <br />style complex with landscaping. <br />In response to Vice Mayor LaBer question regarding heritage trees, <br />Charles Jany, Senior Planner advised the five existing non - heritage trees <br />will be mitigated with appropriate trees on perimeter and in courtyard. <br />Mayor Greenalch asked if anyone else wished to speak to this issue. No one <br />else wished to speak. <br />M /S: Stangel /Bury to close the Public Hearing. <br />Carried by unanimous voice vote. <br />Title Read.
