PUBLIC COMMENT <br />Dean Whitecloud, 1290 Warren Street, Redwood City, a concerned parent, asked the <br />Council to consider approving "drug -free zones" around schools and parks in <br />Redwood City. Mr. Whitecloud spoke to the School District who voiced no <br />objections to discussions concerning this issue. <br />Councilwoman Buchan reported she just discovered she and Mr. Whitecloud are <br />neighbors and she asked to be a representative of the Council in discussions with <br />City departments and appropriate agencies to consider this request. <br />Councilman Bury reported ABAG has just conducted meetings with representatives <br />from the state of New Jersey where these zones have proved effective and offered <br />to bring this information to the discussions. <br />Councilman Claire also volunteered to be a participant in these discussions. <br />Mayor Greenalch thanked Mr. Whitecloud for his bringing this matter to the <br />Council's attention and for his efforts and suggestions. Mayor Greenalch asked <br />Councilwoman Buchan, Councilman Bury and Councilman Claire to work with the City <br />Manager, the Police Chief and the City Attorney in exploring "drug -free zones ". <br />MEMO 12/12/89 <br />City Attorney Schricker advised Council that Mr. Whitecloud had read about the <br />City's recent litigation and had voluntarily come forward to tell what he knew. <br />Mr. Whitecloud became a very important witness in this case and the City Attorney <br />thanked him for having such a strong commitment to civic responsibility. <br />MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />No reports at this time. <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br />None <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />STAFF REPORTS <br />4.
