This memo includes an analysis of the reduction in trips related to the <br /> implementation of a shuttle program and a comparison of traffic conditions with and without the <br /> shuttle program. This memo is intended to serve as supplementary documentation to the traffic <br /> ® impact analysis (TIA) for this project submitted to Redwood City in September 2016. The proposed <br /> school would have an enrollment of 480 students. <br /> Proposed Shuttle Program <br /> The proposed Rocketship shuttle program would serve students at the proposed new school at the <br /> 860 Charter Street site who live outside walking distance from the school and would otherwise be <br /> ^ dropped off and picked up at school by a parent. The school would provide four shuttles that would <br /> each make two runs during both AM drop-off and PM pick-up times. Each shuttle would have the <br /> capacity to transport up to 10 students per run, thus serving a total of 80 students during each <br /> peak hour. Rocketship will evaluate student residence locations to determine which students would <br /> be transported by shuttle and the student pick-up locations and times. <br /> Trip Reduction <br /> Oto Based on the project's TIA, the number of trips made by parents dropping off students during the <br /> AM peak hour was estimated to be 437 total trips, including 225 inbound and 212 outbound trips. <br /> During the PM peak hour, the number of trips made by parents picking-up students was estimated <br /> to be 225 total trips, including 102 inbound and 123 outbound trips. <br /> Surveys at two Rocketship schools in San Jose have found an average of 1.6 students per vehicle <br /> during the AM and PM peak hours. Based on this assumption, the school shuttles (providing <br /> service for 80 students)would eliminate 50 inbound and 50 outbound parent vehicle trips during <br /> each peak hour. Along with this reduction in parent vehicle trips, the shuttles themselves would <br /> account for an increase in 8 inbound and 8 outbound trips during each peak hour. Therefore, the <br /> shuttles would result in a net reduction of 42 inbound and 42 outbound vehicle trips during each <br /> peak hour.
