1 <br />16.4 Salary Adjustments <br />All salary plan adjustments shall be effective the first full pay period on or after October <br />1, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively. All employees occupying a classification <br />within the Unit shall be eligible to receive these salary plan adjustments. <br />16.5 Salary Increase on Promotion <br />Promotional appointments shall be made at the level in the new salary range which results <br />in an increase of at least five percent (5%) but in no event shall the promoted employee <br />receive less than the salary of any subordinate classification the employee is required to <br />supervise directly. Promotional appointments which result in a salary increase of more <br />than five percent (5%) may be made with the approval of the City Manager. Promoted <br />employees are eligible for a merit salary increase after six (6) months of service in the <br />promotional classification and on a yearly basis thereafter. <br />16.6 Overtime <br />16.6.1 Overtime is to be paid after forty (40) hours in paid status in one (1) work week <br />or fifty-six (56) hours in the case of a shift Battalion Chief, and for work <br />performed in excess of eight (8) consecutive hours in one (1) day (exclusive of <br />lunch period), except as provided in Article 16.6.2 below. <br />16.6.2 An employee who is assigned to a shift consisting of more than eight (8) <br />consecutive hours (exclusive of lunch period) shall be entitled to overtime after <br />forty (40) hours in paid status in one (1) work week. <br />16.6.3 All overtime must be authorized by the department head and documented on <br />time cards. <br />16.6.4 Employees shall be paid overtime on a straight time basis or shall receive one <br />(1) hour of administrative leave for each hour of overtime worked, up to a <br />maximum of one hundred twenty (120) hours per calendar year. Administrative <br />leave not used by December 31 shall be paid off at the straight time rate. <br />16.6.5 Battalion Chiefs assigned to a shift schedule shall be paid overtime at a straight <br />time basis or shall receive up to one hundred and sixty-eight (168) hours as <br />administrative leave at the fifty-six (56) hour rate. Administrative leave not <br />used by December 31 shall be paid off at the straight time rate. <br />16.6.6 Battalion Chiefs shall have the right of first refusal for all hire backs to fill a <br />Battalion Chiefs shift when the regularly scheduled Battalion Chief is on a City <br />authorized leave. Overtime hours earned under this hire back provision shall be <br />paid in cash and not count toward the one hundred sixty-eight hours (168) yearly <br />overtime limit specified in Sections 15.6.5. <br />
