MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br />a. Councilman Bury reported the recent Annual Conference of the League of <br />California Cities offered several useful and interesting sessions. <br />b. Councilman Bury announced that the Redwood City -San Carlos - Belmont Board of <br />Realtors will conduct a program on Thursday, November 3, 1988 from 9:00 a.m. <br />to noon on affordOble housing with Joel Singer, an economist, as speaker. <br />c. Councilwoman Buchan, reported attending a session at the ABAG General <br />Assembly on growth management <br />d. Councilwoman Buchan reported a successful cleanup day was held in Stulsaft <br />Park on October 15. <br />e. Vice Mayor LaBerge consulted with Council members and called a meeting of the <br />Legislative Committee for 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 1988 in the <br />office of the City Attorney. <br />f. Councilman Murray expressed his appreciation at attending the Annual <br />Conference of the League of California Cities, noting particularly the <br />session on growth management related to Southern California cities. <br />g. Mayor Greenalch called attention to the request from the Planning Commission <br />for Council members to attend a study meeting with the Historic Resources <br />Advisory Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 1988. <br />h. Mayor Greenalch commended all the staff members responsible for the <br />successful "Fleet Week" program. <br />i. Mayor Greenalch reported attending a dinner given by the Friendship Force of <br />the Bay Area, an organization whih promotes person to person diplomacy. He <br />reported the Mayor of Arnhem, The Netherlands, invited Redwood City residents <br />to visit Arnhem and presented a replica of a 17th Century coin commemorating <br />the 750 year history of Arnhem to the City. <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />BOARD, COMMISSION AND COMMITTEE REPORTS - NONE <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />CITY MANAGER REPORTS <br />4. Police Department Mobile Computer Units Acquisition <br />Report: Police Chief 10/4/88 <br />a. M /S: Murray /Stangel to suspend the requirements of Article VII of <br />Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Redwood City relating to bidding <br />requirements for the purchase of 18 mobile computer units based upon the <br />finding that said equipment is of a unique nature and available from a <br />single source only. <br />Carried unanimously by voice vote.
