<br />and samples shall be properly stamped for identification.
<br />2. Samples shall have all galvanizing or scale removed by mechanical means (filing or
<br />grinding) and then polished.
<br />3• Dimensions of all samples shall be one inch by two inches and samples shall uniform
<br />thickness after polishing.
<br />4. The total surface area in square inches shall be ascertained,including the four edge
<br />surfaces.
<br />5. After measuring,the samples shall be cleaned and kept free from finger marks,grease
<br />or dirt and then weighed on a chemical balance to four decimal places.
<br />6. The samp7Le is to be immersed in a sulphuric acid solution prepared as follows:
<br />100 parts by volume of distilled water mixed with 25 parts by volume of sulphuric
<br />acid,chemically pure,specific gravity 1.8'4 (660 Baume).
<br />Allow the solution to cool down to the temperature of the surrounding air.
<br />7. Two hundred and fifty cubic centimeters of this solution shall then be heated to 15o°
<br />P. (65.50 C.) and in it one sample of metal,and one only,shall be submerged and remain so
<br />for two hours,with the temperature sustained at 1500 F.
<br />8. Sample shall then be removed from the solution, thoroughly dried and weighed. as before.
<br />9. Metal losing more than 0,25 grams per square inch of original surface area (equiva-
<br />lent to .009 ounces per square inch) will not be accepted.
<br />Passed and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Redwood City at a regular
<br />meeting of said Board held on the 20th day of March,1911, by the following vote:
