<br />SECTION 4. Every person, firm or
<br />corporation having a license under the
<br />Provisions of this ordinance and car-
<br />rying on a trade, calling, business, pro-
<br />fession or occupation at a particular
<br />fixed and permanent place of business
<br />shall keep such license posted and ex-
<br />hibited while the same Is in force In
<br />some conspicuous place therein. Every
<br />person, firm or corporation having a li-
<br />cense under the provisions of this or-
<br />dinance who rid not carry on a trade,
<br />calling, business, profession or occu-
<br />pation at a particular fixed and perm-
<br />anent Place of business shall carry his
<br />license with him at all times while car-
<br />rying on said business for which said
<br />license is Issued and shall exhibit same
<br />to any Police Officer of the Town of
<br />Redwood City on request. Every per-
<br />son, firm or corporation having a li-
<br />cense under the provisions of this ord-
<br />inance for ,any vehicle used In the bus-
<br />lnoss, trade, calling, profesalon or oc-
<br />cupation for which such license Is Is-
<br />sued must procure a metal ticket prop-
<br />erly marked and numbered whichshall
<br />be. attached to said vehicle so as to
<br />be plainly legible whether said vehicle
<br />Is in motion or not.
<br />SECTION 5. The Marshall must
<br />make diligent Inquiry as to all per-
<br />sons, firms and corporations In the said
<br />Town of Redwood City liable to pay
<br />a license tax as provided in this ord-
<br />inance, and each person, firm or cor-
<br />poration conducting any busness for
<br />which the license tax depends upon re-
<br />ceipts or the amount of business trans-
<br />acted, shall make and file with the
<br />Marshall a written statement of the
<br />amount of business which he, or the
<br />firm of which he Is a member or for
<br />which he is the agent or attorney, or
<br />the association or corporation of which
<br />he Is an officer or manager, will prob-
<br />ably do during the next succeeding per -
<br />led for which the license may be issu-
<br />ed; this statement shall be the basis
<br />for determining the amount of the li-
<br />cense tax to be paid by such person,
<br />firm or corporation for such period; at
<br />the end, of the period for which licens-
<br />es have Issued as In this Section pro-
<br />vided each person, firm or corporation
<br />holding a license shall when the Mar-
<br />shall calls upon ,them make a written
<br />statement of the amount of business
<br />actually done -during period for which
<br />preceding license was issued and if the
<br />amount .if business done would require
<br />sold person, firm or corporation to pay
<br />a higher license than was actually paid
<br />• said Marshall shall collect from said
<br />person, firm .or corporation the differ-
<br />ence between the amount actually
<br />r•ald and the amount which, should
<br />have been paid, provided however, that
<br />if the amount of business actually done
<br />was less than the statement submit-
<br />ted no rebates of any, kind shall be al-
<br />lowed. Whenever the Marshall shall
<br />have reason to believe any person, firm
<br />or cororation does net make a true
<br />slalement as to the amount of busines3
<br />actually done he shall upon written de
<br />mond served upon said person, firm or
<br />corpor:ulon have access to the boons
<br />and accounts of said person, firm or
<br />corporation for the purpose of ascer-
<br />taining the•buslness actually done dur-
<br />inW said period of time In question. If
<br />any person, firm or Corporation refuses
<br />to make any.statement to the Marshall
<br />Be In this Section required the Marshall
<br />shall from an examination of the busi-
<br />ness and stook of such person, firm or
<br />corporation, estimate the amountofbust-
<br />iness that will be done and such person,
<br />firm or corporation shall pay the prop-
<br />er rate of license therefor.
<br />Any person, firm or corporation re-
<br />fusing to permit of an examination of
<br />their books and accounts as above pro-
<br />vided shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
<br />demeanor and upon conviction shall be
<br />punished as hereinbefore provided.
<br />SECTION 6. On or before the first,
<br />Monday of each month the Marshall)
<br />shall make a return showing the!
<br />amounts of licenses collected during
<br />previous month.
<br />SECTION 7. Every person, firm or
<br />corporation who, at a fixed and perman-
<br />ent place of business sells or offers for
<br />sale any goods, wares, morchandlse, n
<br />meats, food, jewelry, or wares of preci-i
<br />ous metals, or any thing whatsoever, i
<br />save as in this ordinance otherwise
<br />specifically provided, whether on com-,
<br />mission or otherwise, shall pay to the
<br />Town of Redwood City the following
<br />license fee: I
<br />Where the average monthly sales ares
<br />under the sum of three hundred,'
<br />($300) dollars, the sum of $2.50 a quar-'
<br />tor.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />over $300 and under $600, the sum Of
<br />$9,00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales
<br />are over $600 and under $900, the sum
<br />of $6.00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />over $900 and under $1200, the sum of
<br />$9.00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />1 over $1200. and under $2000, the sum of
<br />$12.00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />over $2000 and under '$3500, the sum of
<br />$16.00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales ,are
<br />over $3500 and under $5000, the sum of
<br />$20,00 a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />over $5006 and under $10,000, the sum of
<br />$25.00, a quarter.
<br />Where the average monthly sales are
<br />over $10,000, tine sum of $30.00 a quar-
<br />ter:
<br />SECTION S. Every person„ firm or
<br />corporation merely a temporary, resi-
<br />dent or temporarily located In the Town
<br />of Redwood City who sells or offers for
<br />,sale or engnges in the business of sell-
<br />ing any kind of goods or wares what-
<br />ever where such business is not perm-
<br />anently located In said Town, shall pay,
<br />a license fee of one hundred dollars
<br />t
<br />x($100) a quarter or twenty-five ($25)I
<br />'dollars a week.
<br />Every person, firm or corporation'
<br />who commences business after the adop-
<br />tion of this ordinance and who desires,
<br />�to pay the license provided for perm-
<br />anent classes of business shall file with
<br />the Board of Trustees of said Town a
<br />',bond In the penal sum of one hundred
<br />($100) dollars in favor of sold Town,
<br />Y conditioned that he will in good faith
<br />i be permanently located in said Town in
<br />such business for the period of six
<br />months and In default of which condtt-
<br />ton he will forfeit to said Town the sum
<br />of one hundred ($100) dollars. Said
<br />bond shall be In such form and of such
<br />security as may be approved by the
<br />Board of Trustees of said Town. If
<br />such person, firm or corporation shall
<br />fulfill the obligations of such bond
<br />then same to be null and void, other-
<br />wise to remain In full force and effect.
<br />SECTION 9. The rates of license tax
<br />for the business, trades, callings, occu-
