217 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 19, 1930 <br />8 P.M. <br />Upon roll call there were presdnt: Councilmen Mayor D. R. Stafford, H. A. Beeger, W. J. Dusel, <br />C. J. Hildebrant, G. W. McNulty, E. B. Hinman. City Clerk B. E. Myers. Absent: Council— <br />man Paul A. McCarthy. <br />Minutes of the meeting held May 5, 1930, were approved on motion of Councilman Beeger, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the oath of office of new <br />Councilman Hinman was ordered filed. <br />Mayor Stafford read a communication commending Mr. Hinman as one who would make an excellent <br />Councilman because of his experience and general qualifications, to which Mr. Hinman <br />responded, expressing his appreciation to the Council for his appointment. <br />A map for the subdivision of Lot 13 and portions of Lots 11 and 12, of Block 6, Oak Knoll <br />Manor, was submitted for approval by the San Mateo County Title Company, and said map was <br />accepted by the Councils. -on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. <br />Upon motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Councilman McNulty the case of Manuel Roposa Vierra <br />vs. Redwood City, Mr. Stebenne representing the plaintiff, was disallowed following <br />recommendation of the City Attorney. <br />The City Manager presented a written report supplemented by charts covering the traffic survey <br />made at the Five Points intersection. <br />The City Engineer reported about the trees on Iris Street between Vera and Roosevelt Avenues <br />and hesitated to out them down. The Council was asked to personally look at the trees <br />before making a final decision. <br />Mr. Morton, a representative from Foster & Kleiser, applied for permit to put up signs on the <br />west side of Main Street north of Websterand on Woodside Road and Locust, which was <br />granted on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. <br />A resolution was received, unanimously adopted by the Chamber of Commerce and signed by its <br />President and Secretary, requesting that the City Council as far as was within their <br />legal rights specify the product of the Pacific Portland Cement Company for all local <br />-.construction work where the price and quality are on a par with competigg outside <br />products. Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Council <br />accepted the resolution, shm�m below, and endorsed it: <br />WHEREAS, the support'of industries situated within and near <br />Redvtood-City is of vital importance to the growth and prosperity of <br />the City, and <br />WHEREAS, both the City Government and•the Chamber of Commerce <br />have subscribed to this principle in the past, and <br />WHEREAS, in spite of the fact streets for which contracts <br />were let by our City Government, have been built *ith cement purchased <br />from outside plants by the conttactons to whom such contracts were let, <br />and - .. <br />WHEREAS, this was to the direct detriment of the maintanence <br />and growth of payrolls in Rechvood City, <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that -we, the members of the <br />Redwood City Chamber"of Commerce, do hereby again goon record <br />as unalterably endorsing and•urging that all local industries be <br />supported in- local contracts, *herein•price*and qualitj are identical <br />with competing products manufactured by outside plants; <br />- RESOLVED further, that we are aware of the fact that the city <br />cannot legally specify the product of any certain company in <br />
