326 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING RED7100D CITY COUNCIL NOV. 3, 1930. 7:30 P M Upon roll call, the following were present: Councilman Mayor D R Stafford, H A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, E B Hinman, P A McCarthy, G W McNulty, City Clerk B E Myers. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the minutes of the meeting held October 20, 1930 were approved. A petition requesting thmb Manzanita Street from Stambaugh to Hilton Streets be made passable in wet weather and signed by five people living near the corner of Manzanita and Hilton Streets was received and filed and the matter referred to the City Manager and Engineer. The greater South Redwood Improvement Club filed a letter appealing to the Council in solving the matter of unemployment by giving residents and tax payers in the City preference on municipal contracts. The communication was ordered filed on motion`of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty. A letter from Dave L. Walter complimenting the Police Department for their efficient work on Halloween was read and ordered filed. A coimmmication from the City Manager was submitted in which he recommended that the City buy from the Rix Compressed Air & Drill Company their compressor with the necessary accessories for the sum of $1,861.80, and upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Beeger, the Manager was authorized to make the purchase. On motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman McNulty, application of 0. Fields for dance permits for November 1 and 8 was granted. Emmett Donnelly, executive secretary for the Redwood City District Real Estate Board, submitted a copy of the minutes of that board concerning the changing of the name of Ashley Avenue or Alameda de las Pulgas to Juniperro Serra Blvd., and the Clerk was instructed, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, to write to the board and indicate the Council's favorable reaction to the proposal and their willingness to cooperate in the changing of the name at the proper time. Under date of October 7th the Pacific Gas & Electric Company had addressed the Council asking permission to cut a 41x41 hole in the State Highway near the corner of Brewster Avenue but the matter was delayed and did not come up until this meeting November 3rd. After R iscussion the coimmanication was referred to the City Manager to investigate and grant the permission if in his discretion he thought it best to do so. The City Tax Collector explained in a written communication to the Council the confusion in the tax department resulting from the difference in dates governing the County and City Collections. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the City Collector was granted an extension of time in the collection of both the first and second installments of City taxes and the penalties attaching thereto and to conform to the dates under which the County operates. Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare a revised ordinance governing the levy and collection of taxes. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the City Collector pending the adoption of a new.ordinance for the levying and collecting of taxes be permitted to accept the same �7
