328 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL NOV. 17, 1930. 7: 30 PAT Upon roll call, the following were present: Councilmen Mayor D R Stafford, H A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, E B Hinman, G W McNulty, City Clerk B E Myers. Absent: Councilman P A McCarthy. On motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the minutes of the meeting held November 3, 1930 were approved. A letter from the American Legion signed by Emmett Donnelly, Chairman of the Executive Committee, concerning the employment of citizens of the United States and Redwood City on municipal work was received and filed with instructions that the Clerk inform the American Legion that this matter was- already being taken care of by Charter provision. The City Manager filed a report concerning the disputed water bill of Mr. L. B. Winger ex- plaining that the meter was thoroughly tested and not.found defective. Mr. Rolison recommended that the charge be allowed to stand and after considerable discussion concerning the subject in general, the report was received and filed but no further action was taken. The City Manager also reported concerning the desire of citizens to have Manzanita Street sufficiently improved to be used in wet weather and recommended that the work be done by the City provided the property owners pay for the rock which would have to be used. Upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Dusel, his recommendation was approved. The City Manager also reported on the bids received in connection with the Lathrop Street retaining wall and recommended that the contract be awarded to 111.0. Tyson whose bid itemized below of $688.40 was lowest: ITEM 1. For all excavation of whatever nature, at the price of ONE DOLLAR ($1.00) dollars per cubic yard. ITEM 2. For all filling or back -filling, at the price of TWEIITTY FIVE CENTS ($.25) dollars per cubic yard. ITEM 3. For all cement concrete, at the price of FOURTEEN DOLLARS ($14.00) dollars per cubic yard. ITEM 4. For all reinforcingsteel in place complete, at the price of FOUR CENTS $0.04) cents per pound. ITEM 5. For 2 inch galvanized steel pipe railing in place complete, at the price of TWO DOLLARS ($2.00) dollars per lineal foot of railing. The other bidders were: Sam Sciarrino ^$847:00 Carl Frank Co 874.68 Upon motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the contract for this work was awarded to W.O. Tyson. A letter was received from John Gill, Secretary of the Planning Commission, in which the Commission recommended that the Shell Oil Company's application for service station on James Street and E1 Camino Real be granted. Also, that the application of Mr. Brackett of the Standard Oil Company for station at the corner of E1 Camino Real and James Street be granted. In connection with the paragraph concerning change of the name of Minnie and George Streets, this matter was referred to the City Engineer.
