432 Minutes of Regular Meeting Redwood City Council November 2, 1931 7:30 P M - Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor D R Stafford, H A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, C G Lambert, Paul A McCarthy, Geo W McNulty. City Clerk B E Myers. The minutes of the meeting of October 19th were approved, on motion of Councilman McCarthy,, seconded by Councilman Dusel. Letter from J.D. Hedge, manager of�The Standard, thanking the Council members for their courtesies to him, was ordered filed. The City Manager reported concerning the bids received for the erection of a public con— venience building at the Yacht Harbor as follows: 1. Roy Lind $1637.00 2. Louis N Pollard 1672.00 3. Emil Berndsten 1192.00 L F Bourquin 1335.00 5. Russell & Duncan 1176.00 He recommended that the contract be awarded to Russell & Duncan, whose bid of $1176.00 was the lowest. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the contract was awarded to Russell & Duncan as recommended by the City Manager. The City Manager also reported on the bids received for changing over the present Highway sign to a Neon sign but recommended that the awarding of the contract be laid aver until the next meeting to enable him to make further investigation. Letter from C.E. Piatt, special auditor, in which he assured the Council that the records were being properly kept according to his audit for the three months ended September 30th., wgs ordered filed. A letter from the Redwood City Tribune by Sam H. Winklebleck, publisher, was read calling attention to the fact thatthe Redwood City Standard has ceased publication and asking that the Council designate the Redwood City Tribune as the official newspaper, sub— mitting the following prices at the same time: For the first insertion $1.00 per col. inch For each subsequent insertion .50 per col. inch For advertisements that run only once $1.50 per col. inch After discussion as to the status of the contract with the Redwood City Standard, the matter was referred to the City Attorney to report back at the next meeting, on motion of Co-micilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman McCarthy. The City Manager rade report on the proposed extension of Rogers Street and explained that in an interview with representatives of the Tacoma Mill Company, the Company did not seem so very favorable but that Mr. Classen would report later. The City Engineer submitted his tentative report and indicated the prices for forty and sixty foot streets. As the matter depended considerably on the attitude taken by the Tacoma Mill Company, it was decided best to lay the matter over until a report co-nld be received from them. The City Manager explained about the possibility of liability attaching to the City from banners which were strung over the street and, upon motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, the matter was referred back to the Manager to investigate .further. 1
