Veterans' Welfare Board for the cancellation of current taxes on property assessed to Carl A. and Margaret F. Hage (Lot 10, Block 6, Sub. A Wellesley Park) and Rudolph N. and May M. Buben (Lot 1, Bloxk 2, Resub. Blks. 1-2 Sub A Wellesley Park) 1 was denied and the Clerk authorized to advise the Board of the Council's action. t �k Letter from Mary F. Quinn relating to weed tax was referred to the City Manager. A letter from Violet A. and Howard G. Bourquin protesting weed tax on Block 110, Lot 3, was ordered filed and the Clerk instructed to explain to them that the bill had i been sent out to the Redvo od Highlands Company, who were the assessed owners of j the property, and tihat no protest had been received. The amount was, therefore, 1 i �! t put on thetax roll. i The Real Estate Board addressed a communication to the Council asking that some action be taken to standardize the height of awnings and suggested that it be at least i �I six and one-half feet. This matter was referred to the Attorney and the Police lis I' Department. The City Manager reported receipt of a letter from Jno. W. Bourdette in which he went ! on record as saying that the Tacoma Mill Company would protest any extension of Rogers Street and that they would contest any action in condemnation. As a final action on the petition which had been presented requesting extension of Rogers t Street to the Bayshore Highway, it was moved by Councilman McCarthy, seconded by a4 4 Councilman Hildebrant, that the matter be laid on the table and that the letter of Mr. Bourdette be filed. Carried. The City Engineer reported concerning the bridge at the end of James Street and that he { had put up notices and barricaded the bridge but that people had torn down the barricade and were using the bridge. The City Manager explained that he had written the Southern Pacific Company but that he had no reply. Finally, on motion ! r of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Dusel, the City Engineer was instructed ,i to put up a barricade across the end of James Street and to remove the bridge with , the understanding, however, that if later the Southern Pacific agreed to pay one-half the cost of a.neiv bridge that the bridge would be rebuilt. r The City Manager reported concerning the Leonard & Holt account and stated that nothing further had been received. Upon motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the City Manager was asked to tell Leonard & Holt that at least $500 must be paid by the morning of December 10th or that after a few days notice in the Tribune the water would be shut off. Further consideration of Ordinance No. 330 (Regulating the selling and taking of subscriptions, etc., from house to house) was had and, upon motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by d t Councilman McNulty, it was formally adotted.
