450 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL FEBRUARY 1, 1932 7:30 P M Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: R A Beeger, W J Dusel, C J Hildebrant, j C G Lambert, Paul A McCarthy, Geo W McNulty. City Clerk B E Myers. Absent: Mayor D R Stafford. In the absence of Mayor Stafford, Councilman Beeger, on motion of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Dusel, was elected chairman for the evening. The minutes of the meetings of January 18th and 25th were approved, on motion of -Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman Dusel. J. J. Bullock, representing the taxi -cab men of Redwood City, spoke before the Council concerning the proposed amendment to the taxi ordinance maintaining that to grant outside bus drivers permission to deliver passengers or pick up passengers anywhere in Redwood City would be� unfair to the present taxi drivers. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Dusel, seconded by Cotncilman Hildebrant, to continue the final hearing on the ordinance until March 7th. The members of the Library Board appeared before the Council and, representing the Board, Dr. N. C. Cummings requested that the Council place on the ballot at the next municipal election the question of bonding the City for $60,000 for the construction of a new library. Dr. Cummings went into detail to explain the inadequacy of the present library facilities. In the pre- liminary discussion Councilman Beeger expressed his personal opinion that he would not be in favor of placing such an issue before the people at this time. In this he was concurred in by Councilmen McNulty and Dusel. Councilman McCarthy and Lambert were in favor of submitting the issue to give the people an opportunity to express their willingness to vote on such an issue. Finally, Councilman McCarthy moved that there be placed on the ballot at the coming election the question of the issuance of $60,000 in twenty year bonds for the building, furnishing and equipping of a new library. The motion was seconded by Councilman Lambert. On voting, Councilmen McCarthy and Lambert voted for the motion but Councilmen McNulty, Dusel and Hilde- brant voted against it, Chairman Beeger not voting. Motion lost. Councilman McCarthy, representing the committee on parks and recreation which had last summer proposed that the Council arrange to have a special bond issue for the acquiring and equipping of recreational centers, reported that in the special called committee meeting held that he was instructed to request the Council again to have this issue placed on the ballot at the coming election and Councilman Lambert so moved. In this he was seconded by Councilman McCarthy. In this voting also, Councilmen McCarthy and Lambert voted for the motion but the remaining members voted against it. Motion lost. The approved claims were ordered paid, on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. Departmental reports were ordered filed. Adjournment. P n_� 0
