ME <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 2, 1932 <br />8:00 P M <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Wm J Dusel, H A Beeger, C J Hildebrant, <br />Robert N Jones, C G Lambert, Paul A McCarthy, Geo W McNulty. City Clerk B E Myers. <br />The minutes of the meetings of April 18 and April 25 were approved on motion of Councilman Beeger, <br />seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />A Mr. Pederson of the Salvation Army addressed the Council concerning permission to solicit in <br />Redwood City. At the same time the Clerk read a letter from the City Collector pertaining <br />to permissions to similar organizations to solicit. Concerning the Salvation Army, on motion <br />+ <br />of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Beeger, Mr. Pedersen was given permission to <br />solicit money from those who had contributed in the past but not to make any new contacts <br />for the purpose of solicitation. A Mr. VanCleve, representing the Volunteers of America, <br />i <br />was also present and explained that his organization was similar to the Salvation Army <br />but that they made no solicitation for money direct, accepting only voluntary contributions. <br />On motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Volunteers of America <br />were given permission to make solicitations for papers, clothes, etc., provided they did <br />not make any direct appeal for money. In the same connection, the City Attorney was <br />i <br />instructed to draw up an ordinance covering the matter of such organizations soliciting in <br />Redwood City. <br />The resignation of Councilman Dusel as a member of the Planning Commission was read and accepted, <br />on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. Mayor Dusel explained f <br />p <br />that he desired to appoint Daniel R. Stafford to his place on the Planning Commission and <br />Ri <br />the appointment was ratified, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman ° <br />j, <br />Hildebrant. Following this, Mayor Dusel made the following appointments: j <br />Finance Councilman George McNulty <br />Police Councilman Henry Beeger <br />Fire Councilman Robert Jones <br />Streets Councilman Paul McCarthy <br />Harbor Councilman Charles Hildebrant J, <br />Public Utilities Councilman Charles Lambert <br />The Clerk brought up again the matter of waiving penalties on delinquent 1915 Act assessments <br />and the matter was extended until the first meeting in July, on motion of Councilman <br />McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant. , <br />Affidavit of posting notices in connection with the weed abatement proceeding was ordered filed, <br />on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Lambert. Following this, Councilman <br />Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman McNulty, offered resolution ordering the Superintendent of <br />Streets to abate the weed nuisance.
