' I i I MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL AUGUST 15, 1932 5:00 P.M. Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor W. J. Dusel, H. A. Beeger, R. N. Jones C. G. Lambert, Paul A. McCarthy,'Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E. Akers. Absent: Councilman C. J. Hildebrant. Minutes of August 1st and Sth were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Lambert. The City Engineer made a report, with sketch, of the proposed change of gutter and curb at the corner of Myrtle and Katherine Streets, indicating that the owner of the property, the Redwood Highlands Company, would be willing to deed to the City the small portion necessary for this construction. The matter was referred to the City Attorney to follow up. The Railroad Commission addressed a letter to the City Manager and Council concerning the installation of a mechanical signal on the Southern Pacific Tracks where they cross Spruce Street, for the purpose of having this installation serve as a test, with the idea, perhaps, of using automatic signals at all crossings in Redwood City. The matter was referred by the Mayor to the'City Manager, City Engineer and Councilman Beeger with the request to make their recommendation at the next meeting. The Clerk was also asked to notify the Railroad Commission that the matter was having attention. The City Assessor asked the Council concerning the delivery of deeds in connection with the Hudson Street opening Down as Resolution M-5, indicating that she wished to assess certain parcels with the understanding that deeds had been delivered. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Jones, she was so instructed, that is, to assess the property in question as if the deeds had already been delivered. Walter Conant, of 728 Vera Avenue, requested that the license charge for peddlers be waived in his instance as he was unable to pay it and it would materially aid him in making a living. The Council did not grant his request. Mrs. Emma Eads (Becker) made a special request that the improvements on her property be reduced from the $450 set by the City Assessor. It was finally decided that the valuation of the improvements be reduced to $300. At this time the City Manager addressed the Council concerning his recommendation in regard to salary reductions, referring to a report which had been mailed to each of the Councilmen. After considerable discussion, the matter was brought before the Council for decision, by 1 motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman McCarthy. Councilman Beeger moved that the Council accept the recommendation of the City Manager as the salary schedule and the Allocation of salaries to different funds with the understanding that there would be a volun- tary agreement on the part of the employees to accept this reduction in compensation effective August 1, 1932 to June 30, 1933. Motion carried.(Schedule on file) The City Attorney addressed the Council concerning his salary and it was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, that the City Attorney be paid $250 per month with no allowance for stenographic help or rent.
