468 x ♦Je�Y '� e W. 0. Tyson asked the Council whether or not it was ready to cancel the bond which he had executed in connection with his construction of the Main Street bridge. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the matter was referred to the �f City Attorney. The matter of contribution to the San Mateo County Charter Study Committee for the purpose of publicity in connection with the proposed•Charter was again considered and on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Lambert, the City Council decided to contribute $150 with the provision that at least $750 be donated by other municipalities. In a letter to the Council, the Glens Falls Indemnity Company indicated its desire to cancel the bond furnished for E. B. Fox in connection with the extension of Hudson Street. On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Clerk was instructed I to notify this Company to cancel the bond for Mr. Fox from and after the date of his death. ; The Greater South Redwood Improvement Club, in a communication to the Council, called its attention to the commutation rates existing between Redwood City and San Francisco and asked the Council to cooperate in doing what it could both to retain the present rates or to have i them reduced. On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Mayor i was instructed to appoint a committee to take up this matter with the different Chambers of Commerce and other organizations. Mayor Dusel appointed on this committee Councilmen Lambert and Jones, The City Manager in a written communication,placed before the Council the question of handling 71 r IF o� local garbage, calling attention to different methods and indicating that a suitable ordinance might be drafted to outline the procedure. Following the discussion, the City Manager and Attorney were asked to draw up a tentative ordinance covering garbage dis- posal and report at the next meeting that the matter might be given full consideration by 1 the Council. i The proposals by several auditing firms were read but no decision was taken other than to lay I ' the matter over until the following meeting. The Treasurer was instructed to charge the salary item of Mr. E. W. Rowland in charge of the unemployment office to the Unbudgeted Reserve Account. The City Manager again brought up for consideration a reply to a letter from the Railroad Com- mission concerningthe installation of a Griswold signal gnal at the point where Spruce Street crosses the Southern Pacific Company's tracks. After considerable discussion, Councilman it Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, moved that the Council go on record as considering for this particular crossing that a human flagman was more desirable than the automatic I signal. Motion lost. Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Lambert, moved that the Council go on record as favoring the installation at this point of a Griswold Two -Train automatic signal. This motion was also lost. i At this meeting the City Manager presented his Budget for both the General Governmental Depart- mental Departments and the Water Department and explained to the Council the addition of the extra 5¢ in the matter of creating an unbudgeted reserve. The Budget was adopted by the Council on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant.
