Ordinance No. 339 requiring solicitors to have permits came up for final reading and after filing affidavit of publication, this ordinance was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Lambert. For full text see Ordinance Book Volume j, page (s�: The City Manager brought up for discussion the question of completing the sidewalk in front of the Foley property on Broadway, and also mentioned that he had quotations on gas heating appliances for installation in - the fire house auditorium,, but no action was taken. The City Engineer reported that he and Councilman Jones had made a survey of the drainage con— dition of the Woodside Acres district and showed how by making certain ditches and drainage channels, water might be diverted. The City Manager and Councilman Jones also participated in the discussion, but no action was taken. Councilman Jones asked if something couldn't be done to clear the cemetery along the Woodside Road of the high weeds that were standing. The City Manager explained that he had this in mind as work for the unemployed and thought perhaps the money being raised by the unemploy— ment committee could be used for that purpose. On motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Manager was instructed to report to the unemployment committee that it was the desire of the Council to use the funds of the committee to make this improve— ment. Councilman Jones again brought up the question of the disposal of garbage and the City Manager explained that he was practically ready to submit an ordinance covering this question and would have it ready by the next meeting. Councilman Lambert asked if anything could be done to stop the excessive speed of traffic at the corner of Hopkins and Hillview and this matter was referred to Chief Collins. Councilman McNulty asked that the electrician check up on the lights at the Fat Boy Barbecue on the Highway. On motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Coun()ilman McNulty, the Rainbow Girls were given permission to hold a dance in the Masonic Hall, October 22.
