484 MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING REDvi00D CITY COUNCIL NOVEMBER 7, 1932 5:00 P.M. Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, W. J. Dusel, H. A. Beeger, R. N. Jones, C. J. Hildebrant, C. G. Lambert, George W. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: Councilman Paul A. McCarthy. Minutes of October 17 were approved on motion of Councilman Jones and seconded by Councilman McNulty. W. D. Ryan, representing the Merchants' Division of the Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Council to request a donation of $300 toward the expense of the Christmas Tree party during December. Upon motion of Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman Is4cNulty, it was finally agreed, in view of the restricted budget, to allow $150. The City Clerk brought up for consideration the bids for the construction of the Hudson Street Bridge, but on motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the award of contract was laid over until the next meeting. This was found necessary, as explained by the City Attorney, because property rights in the lots affected by this bridge had not been obtained and the Attorney thought it would be necessary, in order to clear up the matter, to bring suit in con— demnation. He was, therefore, on motion of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman Beeger, instructed to start the necessary procedure for condemnation of these lots. The City Manager, in a written communication, explained to the Council the difficulty of making a contribution of $500 toward unemployment relief because there was no certainty as to the amount of taxes that would be collected or the amount of miscellaneous revenues which might come in. As a consequence, the matter was not decided and was laid over until the following meeting. Mr. C. D. Swett appeared before the Board to propose -that the insurance business of the City be so handled as to distribute equitably the commissions among the dealers who pay a license into the City Treasury. He suggested that one dealer be authorized to handle all of the insurance and then pro—rate the commissions among those entitled to the distribution. While some of the mem— bers thought that this would be practical, it was finally decided to lay it over until the i� following meeting, giving time for further consideration. C. E. Piatt, special auditor, filed a letter indicating that the records of the City for the first quarter of the fiscal year had been audited and found in proper order, and the letter was ordered filed. r: The City Attorney presented a Deed from J. B. Perry to the City of Redwood City covering a small portion of land now being used as a public thoroughfare, joining a 20—ft. alley at Perry Street. On motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the resolution accepting the Deed was proposed and unanimously adopted. The Attorney also presented a Deed from the Redwood Highlands Company, Ltd., granting to the City a small parcel at the corner of Lot 28, Block 42 in Redwood Highlands, and the resolution accept i Ing this Deed was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman JJ 1 Hildebrant. The City Manager presented a tentative ordinance providing for the handling of refuse in Redwood City
