1 <br />l7 <br />ITEM 5: For all PIPE RAILING in Place complete, at the price of One <br />Dollar and forty-eight cents ($1.49) Dollars per lineal foot'_of•railing. <br />ITEM 6: For all,CATCH BASINS complete, at the price of Twenty one and <br />Seventy five cents ($21.75) Dollars each. <br />I further propose and agree to complete said work within 20 <br />calendar days from the date of award of contract. <br />The Clerk was also instructed to return the checks of the unsuccessful bidders. It was <br />further understood that the contract would be entered into with Mr. Doyle when the <br />City acquired possession of the property. In connection with the construction of this <br />bridge, Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, offered a resolution direct- <br />ing the City Attorney to take the necessary steps in eminent domain for the purpose of <br />acquiring property required for this bridge. Unanimously carried. <br />Councilman McCarthy introduced to the Council, Mr. George A. Merrill, former councilman and <br />now head of a private school in San Francisco. Councilman McCarthy explained about the <br />possibility of having Miss Gladys I7ykoff9 a. student of Mr, Merrill, come to Redwood City <br />beginning January 1st to serve as playground supervisor under the supervision and with <br />the cooperation of the Superintendent of.Schools, John Gill. No action was taken other <br />than to arrange to have Mr. Gill present at the next Council meeting for further con <br />ference. <br />Councilman Jones stated he had been the recipient of several complaints concerning increased <br />assessed valuation on property in his district. The City Manager suggested that if he <br />would make a list of the parcels, the matter would be taken up with the City Assessor <br />and some explanation be forthcoming. <br />Mayor Dusel called the attention of the Council to the success the Redwood City Fire Depart- <br />ment First Aid Team had in competition at the Palace Rotel in San Francisco and recom- <br />mended that a letter be sent to the men in appreciation. The Clerk was accordingly <br />authorized to write such a letter on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Council- <br />man Beeger. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman <br />Beeger. <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM:MR <br />City Clerk <br />487 <br />
