I 1'
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
REDNOOD CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 17, 193'
9:00 P. M.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen_ were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C. Christensen,
J. td. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk,
B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meeting of December 3, 193+, were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy,
seconded by Councilman Eva.
In connection with a letter from Hall, Marquardt & Company of Los Angeles, offering $99000
of Bonds, Series L, at a price of 70, the discussion brought out that the Council members
were somewhat in doubt as to the advisability of making such a purchase, but did ask the
Treasurer to ascertain if the clients of this bondhouse would be willing to offer the
bonds at 60.
The Clerk read a copy of a resolution passed and adopted by the Board of Supervisors of San
Mateo County,.December 10, in which the Board requested the State Highway Commission to
commence at the earliest date possible the construction of the Ocean Shore Highway and
asking that the City Councils of the County of San Mateo follow the example of the Board
of Supervisors and ask the State Highway Commission to proceed with this work. Following
a discussion, Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Eva, offered the following re—
solution for adoption which was carried unanimously.
WI-MPEAS it is understood state and federal funds have been appro—
priated for the construction of the Ocean Shore Highway, and
WHEREAS, the construction of this highway will create work for the
unemployed and bring highway facilities to that portion of the Counties
affected,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City that the
State Highway Commission be, and it is now, requested to commence the con—
struction of the Ocean Shore Highway as soon as possible.
The Council assured the City Treasurer that it was desired to continue with the Travelers
Insurance Company, the group insurance arrangement which has been in existence in Redwood
City for some years.
In a communication to the Council, H. A. Beeger, Trustee for the Creditors of the F. K. Towne
Estate, asked for an appropriation of $300 as the city's share of the delinquent and
current taxes on the real property held in trust. The Clerk was instructed to write
Mr. Beeger that the city would likely contribute its share provided all the other credi—
tors would participate pro rata, and that the judgment of the Council members was that
the Dumbarton Bridge stock would be disposed of and the proceeds applied toward the pay—
ment,,of these taxes.
Ordinance fixing the license rates for gas fitters, etc, was brought up for final adoption
but was continued until the next meeting.
Mr. M. Roussille asked permission of the Council to erect a 10 x 40—ft. sign on the Frank Tanning
Company's property north of the Bayshore, and a permit revocable at any time was granted
on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
Marshall Helmer of Rogers Street, asked permission to move about 15 feet over on to another lot
I
