MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MARCH 20, 1933 <br />5:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor W. J. Dusel, H. A. Beeger, C. J. <br />Hildebrant, R. N. Jones, C. G. Lambert, Geo. W. Mc1T? lty, City, Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: <br />Paul A. McCarthy. <br />Minutes of March 7 were approved by Councilman Hildebrant, seconded by Councilman Lambert. <br />E. B. Hinman and Mrs. Z. T. Thorning appeared before the Board in connection with the $600.00 contri- <br />buted by the Water Fund for the Red Cross Bread Fund and explained that the Red Cross desired to <br />use about $180.00 more than had been utilized up to the present and asked permission of the Board <br />to spend approximately this amount from the balance remaining in this Red Cross Bread Fund. On <br />motion of -Councilman Beeger, seconded by Councilman Lambert, such permission was given. <br />In'connection with the letter of the City Clerk to the Chamber of Commerce relating to two veterans who <br />desired free licenses for wholesale deliveries, the Chamber of Commerce, by its president, J. E. <br />Morrish, replied that the Chamber felt that the license ordinance should be enforced in all cases. <br />L. Eisner presented a statement signed by Roy Bissell and A. C. Dinwoodie indicating that they would <br />like to have Mr. Eisner supply them. Following discussion, it was decided on motion of Councilman <br />Jones, seconded by Councilman Lambert, to follow the recommendation of the Chamber of Commerce and <br />live up to the terms of the ordinance. <br />Howard I. Wood, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, sent to the Council copy of letter from the Retail <br />Division of that organization concerning the question of concentrating the business district of <br />Redwood City and providing for no more extension. The Chamber indicated its willingness to appoint <br />a committee to cooperate with the City Council in this matter. The communications were referred.to <br />the City Manager to get in touch with the Chamber of Commerce and report. <br />The Burlingame Chamber of Commerce sent to the Council a resolution passed by the Burlingame Unemployment <br />Relief Committee pertaining to the hiring of local labor on the Golden Crate Bridge. This matter, on <br />motion of Councilman Lambert, seconded by Councilman McNulty, was also referred to the Manager and <br />he was asked to investigate. <br />Sanford B. Dole, Secretary of the Library Trustees, suggested, in a written communication, that the <br />Council endeavor to have the architecture of the proposed•nem post office building to be of such a <br />nature that it•would harmonize with the contemplated construction of other city buildings including <br />the library in the Civic Center. The letter was referred to the City Manager with the understanding <br />that he would get in touch with the architect, when appointed, to get the buildings to harmonize as <br />far as possible. <br />The City Clerk reported that he had sent word, as instructed by the Council at its meeting of March 7, <br />to C. H. Holt and instructed him to remove the sign near the corner of Whipple Avenue and the High- <br />way. The Building Inspector reported that the sign had not been removed and on motion of Councilman <br />Jones, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the Clerk Was directed to tell Mr. Holt that if the sign <br />was not removed by April 1 that the Building Inspector would see that the sign was removed at Mr. <br />Holt's expense. <br />Memo. The Building Inspector was asked to investigate the physical condition of the Emerald Lake <br />electric sign across the Highway at Jefferson Avenue. <br />I <br />t <br />i <br />
