<br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
<br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br />MARCH 2, 1936
<br />5:00 P.M.
<br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, C. G. Lambert, L. C. Christensen,
<br />J. M. Eva,, E.,A, Fletcher, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, Geo. W„ McNulty and City Clerk,
<br />B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
<br />The minutes of the meeting of February 17, 1936, were approved on motion of Councilman Christensen,
<br />seconded by Councilman McNulty.
<br />A letter was received from G. Chevassus, attached to which was a petition signed. by quite a
<br />number of people requesting a change in the location of' the parking place for the Emerald
<br />Lake and Woodside busses. Inasmuch as the City Manager and the Chief of Police considered
<br />the present arrangement satisfactory, it was decided to permit it to remain, and it was so
<br />ordered, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, with instruc-
<br />tions.to the Clerk to write a letter to Mr. Chevassus to that effect.
<br />The Clerk read a letter from the League of California Municipalities, by Richard Graves, Secretary,
<br />explaining, first, that the proposal now referred to as a repeal of the sales tax would, as
<br />an inevitable result, mean at the end of five years that the State would be assessing
<br />property under what is known as single tax, that is, the entire tax would fall on the land
<br />only. On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Jones, the Council went on record
<br />as being opposed to the repeal of the sales tax in consideration of the result which would
<br />follow.
<br />A second point made by Mr. Graves was a discussion of the mandatory Civil Service proposal,
<br />and the Council went on record as opposing such Civil Service proposal for cities the size

<br />of Redwood City, on motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman McCarthy.
<br />Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman McCarthy, moved the introduction of ordinance
<br />rezoning Block 2 of Diller's Addition from business district to light industrial district.
<br />(Lot intended for laundry opposite postoffice.) Carried.
<br />Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, offerred the following resolution and
<br />moved its adoption. Carried unanimously.
<br />'t Councilman McCarthy offers the following resolution and moves
<br />its adoption, to -wit:
<br />Section 1. WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of the charter
<br />of the City of Redwood City, in the County of San Mateo, State of.California,
<br />there is to be held on Monday, the 13th day of April, 1936, a general muni-
<br />cipal election in said City of Redwood City.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Redwood City does
<br />hereby resolve and determine as follows, to -wit:
<br />A general municipal election shall beheld in the City of Redwood
<br />City, as provided by the charter of said city, on Monday, the 13th day of
<br />April, 1936, at which election there shall be elected four (4) members of
<br />the Council of said City of Redwood City for the full term of four (4)
<br />' years each.
<br />AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood
<br />City that for the purpose of such general municipal election the City of
<br />Redwood City is divided into eight (5) election precincts to be known as
<br />and designated Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No. l; Redwood
<br />City Municipal Election Precinct No. 2; Redwood City Municipal Election
<br />Precinct No. 3; Redwood City Municipal Election. Precinct No. 4; Redwood
<br />City Municipal Election Precinct No. 5; Redwood City Municipal Election
<br />Precinct No. 6; Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No.,7; and
<br />Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No. 5. Said above named election
