MINUTES OF REGUtAAR •MELTING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 19, 1936 <br />9:00 P.M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, Paul A. McCarthy, L. C. <br />Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W. McNulty, City <br />Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: None. <br />The minutes of the meetings of April 29, May 4, and May 11, 1936, were approved on motion <br />of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Rohn. <br />In a communication from the Chamber of Commerce, signed by W. D. Ryan, request was made <br />of the Council that in the next budget provision be made for an appropriation of <br />$375 to serve as one-half of the payment of the first unit of the electrical street <br />decoration. On motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, it was <br />so ordered. <br />In another communication, the Chamber of Commerce, by its President, Perry A. Bygdnes, <br />asked that the Council include in next year's budget at least $300 asan appropriation <br />toward the expense of printing publicity folders for the City. Request granted on <br />motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />In a communication to the Council, the Planning Commission recommended that a permit be <br />granted to George S. Paddleford, Inc. to sell "used cars" on the lot at the corner <br />A <br />of E1 Camino Real, James and California Streets, good until June 30, after which <br />application would have to be made for renewal. On motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Eva, the Council accepted the recommendation as made by the <br />Planning Commission, with Councilman McNulty voting "Nos. <br />A suggested ordinance regulating "used cars lots was submitted and considerable discussion <br />ensued. Finally, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty, <br />the ordinance was introduced. As an outgrowth of the discussion, Councilmen Rohn and <br />Eva were asked to serve as a committee to check on the license ordinance and report at <br />the next meeting. <br />The City Manager, D. P. Flynn, and others, resumed discussion pertaining to the Main Street <br />parallel parking. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded <br />by Councilman Eva, to refer the matter again to the original special committee with <br />the proviso that Councilman Christensen should be substituted for Councilman Jones on <br />the Committee. <br />Albert Bullivant addressed the Council concerning the proposed compulsory Civil Service <br />legislation and on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman.Jones, the Council <br />went on record as having no objection to having the officers or employees of the City <br />participate in any movement to bring about legislation resulting in compulsory Civil <br />Service. <br />Don Alford, Real Estate Broker of Belmont, asked permission to put up a branch office at <br />the corner of E1 Camino Real and Center Street and move thereto a temporary building. <br />He was granted permission to do this, on motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by <br />
