210 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 1, 1936 <br />9:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor, Paul A. McCarthy, L. C. <br />Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, G. W_. McNulty, <br />City Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: None. <br />The minutes of the meeting of May 18, 1936, were approved on motion of Councilman Chris- <br />tensen, seconded by Councilman Hohn. <br />Following considerable discussion by Frank V. Kington, attorney of Redwood City, Kenneth <br />McDougall, attorney of Palo Alto, and Al Davies, car dealer of.Redwood City, action <br />on the ordinance regulating 11used care lots was laid over until the next meeting, <br />on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, with the under- <br />standing that the ordinance would be referred to the City Attorney with instructions <br />that if, as it now reads, the ordinance is not legal, to revise it so that the <br />amended form would be legal. <br />The Clerk read a letter from Wayne R. Millington in which he proposed a compromise figure <br />of $500 for the claim of Lucille K. Gillis against the city. On motion of Councilman <br />McNulty, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the offer to compromise at this figure was <br />accepted. <br />As requested in a previous meeting, the City Manager filed a letter giving information <br />concerning the additional cost for burning two lights of the electroliers instead <br />of one. It was decided to test out the use of 400 c.p. lamps as compared with the <br />600 c.p. lamps before taking any action. <br />Report on the Main Street situation was laid over until the next meeting. <br />Wayne R. Millington, speaking for the soft baseball players at Hawes Park, asked if it <br />could not be arranged to include in the next budget an item for more lights. The <br />matter was referred to the City'Manager. <br />Frank V. Kington also asked the Council concerning the status of the claim of Mrs. London, <br />and he was referred to the City Attorney. <br />Clarence Ploughman filed a petition, signed by W.P.A. workers, asking that they receive <br />prevailing wages on W.P.A. projects. Petition was ordered filed, on motion of Coun- <br />cilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McNulty. The City Manager was asked to <br />prepare a statement showing the amount necessary to pay the difference between the <br />W.P.A. schedule and the prevailing wage. <br />Al Davies addressed the Council to ask that he be permitted to erect business buildings <br />on the entire depth of his property which exceeds the regular zoning depth. He was <br />instructed that this was a matter for the Planning Commission and that he should make <br />application directly to that Body. <br />J. C. Chastain, of the Redwood City Standard, again complained to the Council that there <br />was unfair distribution of the city printing and requested that the orders be sent <br />to all the printers of the community. <br />i <br />
