r <br />C <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JUNE 1, 1937 <br />9:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, L. C. <br />Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, TTm. Hohn, R. N. Jones. Absent: Councilman <br />G. W. McNulty and City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />In the absence of City Clerk Myers, Councilman Christensen moved the appointment of <br />Councilman Eva as clerk pro tem. Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman <br />Jones moved the nominations be closed, and the same was adopted unanimously and <br />Councilman Eva appointed clerk pro tem. <br />The City Manager presented a claim from the San Carlos Enquirer for publication of the <br />notice of the Redwood City Harbor Annexation Election which was ordered paid. <br />Letter of resignation of A. B. Cheatham as a member of the Port Commission due to illness <br />was received, and upon motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman <br />Fletcher, said resignation of Mr. Cheatham was accepted with regrets and thanks <br />for his service on the Commission. <br />The City manager filed the written appointment of Henry A. Beeger as a member of the <br />Port Commission to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Cheatham. <br />On motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Rohn and carried unanimously, <br />the appointment of Mr. Beeger was approved. <br />Letter from Major Edmonds, Chairman of the Port Commission, in regard to the leases <br />of harbor lands recommending immediate action in securing said leases was read, <br />and the City Attorney informed the Council the present status of said matter. <br />Letter from C. H. Holt, Manager of the East Redwood Improvement Club, thanking the <br />Council for the playground constructed on Middlefield Road was ordered filed. <br />The Council discussed various methods of purchasing harbor lands, particularly the <br />property of the Valley and Coast Warehouse Company. <br />Application of Rafeal. Canete for permission to give a moving picture show at the <br />Foresters' Ball in aid of the Spanish Government Red Cross was granted upon <br />motion of Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, Councilmen McCarthy <br />and Hohn voting "No". <br />The Council entered into a general discussion of the necessity of a full-time <br />recreational director, which matter was taken under advisement. <br />The Council had a general discussion relative to the 1915 bond situation and Treasurer <br />Myers was requested to furnish and forward to Stone & Youngberg the amount of <br />money that the city had appropriated either by a tax levy or from the general <br />fund to any of the 1915 improvement bond districts for the purchase of property <br />at delinquent sales, and the City Manager was directed to contact the Treasurer <br />in relation thereto. <br />
