4t
MINUTES OF REGULAR MMTIITG
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 7, 1937
9:00 P. td.
Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, Councilmen
L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, Wm. Hohn, and G. W. McNulty,
and City Clerk, B. E. Myers. Absent: None.
The minutes of the meeting of May 17 and special meeting of June 1 were approved on motion
of Councilman Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Christensen.
Claim of Herbert W. Treichel of 293 Fulton Street was presented. Mr. Treichel claimed that
on the night of April 24, Mrs. Treichel, driving their Reo sedan, stopped in front of
532 Arlington Road and in doing so a limb from a tree overhanging the street was low
enough to crush the top of the car. He reported an estimated cost of $20.00 to repair
the damage. On motion of Councilman Christensen, seconded by Councilman Eva, the
City Treasurer was authorized to issue warrant for the cost of this repair, not to
exceed $20.00.
David L. Walter presented a letter and also appeared in person to ask the Council to waive
tax penalties, indicating that other cities, particularly Palo Alto, were releasing the
taxpayers of the extra charge for interest, penalties and costs. No action was taken.
Stanley A. Mayer of 75 King Street appeared before the Council, at the suggestion of Mayor
McCarthy, concerning the use of his amateur transmitting station for which he has erected
an 90 -foot tower. There was some question as to the desirability of having such a tower
in the residence section, and the City Attorney was requested to meke a report on it at
the next meeting.
Several persons were present to discuss the desirability of the City maintaining municipal
bus lines. After a discussion, it was decided on motion by Councilman Pletcher, seconded
by Councilman Hohn, to have the Mayor appoint a committee to investigate and report back
to the Council. The Mayor appointed City Manager Dimmitt, as chairman of the committee,
Councilmen Jones and Fletcher, P. A. Bygdnes, Roscoe Wyatt, L. S. Emerson, W. L. Cavanaugh,
and Norman Robotham.
The question of what to do about pin ball games was brought before the Council again and
Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Jones, proposed that the Chief of Police be
instructed to order the removal from Redwood City of all pin ball machines such as out-
lined in a letter to him from the District Attorney. Motion carried with Councilman
Fletcher voting 1IN011.
Consideration of the dog ordinance was laid over until the next meeting.
Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Hohn, proposed the introduction of fire ordinance giving
the Council discretion in the regulation of alterations or repairs to frame or wooden
buildings in the fire district area. In this connection it was decided to have a committee
investigate the desirability of reducing fire restrictions in certain fire zones, and on
this committee the Mayor appointed City Manager Dimmitt, Fire Chief Ryan, Police Chief
Collins, Building Inspector Drathman, City Attorney Mansfield, and Edwin De Smith, and
Henry Witte of the Planning Commission.
