i. MINUTES OF SPECIAL ADJOURNED MEETING
REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
JULY109
1933
8:00 P
Upon toll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor,`W. J. Duel, H. A. Beeger,
R. N. Jones, C. J. Hildebrant, Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. W. McNulty, City Clerk, B. E. Uyers,
Absent: 0. G. Lambert.
As requested, Charles Foley appeared before the Council in connection with his establishment
at the.corner of Broadway and Hamilton Streetc. Be explained that at the time of his
opening he had not been able to put in all.the furniture and equipment he had intended
and that at present there were tables and chairs and he planned to put in stools at the
bar and also to serve sandwiches of different kinds. This explanation satisfied the
Council.
Wm. Jamieson asked the Board, in the name of several merchants on Main Street, if the property
across from his building could be cleaned up. He referred to the old unoccupied building
and the condition of the empty lots.
Joe M. Faso, owner of the 0. B. Garage, took up the question, in a written communication, of
having the telephone pole near,'or in front.of his garage, removed as it to a menace to
traffic and interfered with the operation of his garage. The City Manager" explained that
the facts•set forth by Mr. Faso were substantially correct yet it iould cost considerable
to remove the pole. It was finally decided, on motion of Councilman MbOaAby, seconded
by Councilman McNulty, that the City would be willing to remove the pole if Mr. Faso would
stand one-half•of the expense. The Clerk was' accordingly instructed to write Mr: Faso to
this effect,.asking him to deposit $25.00 as a guarantee of his willingness to carry out
the project.
Following.the reading of a communication from the California Municipal Utilities Association,'
Councilman Jones, seconded by Councilman McNulty, offered for adoption the following re—
solution-which was unanimously carried.
"WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City owns and operates a Municipal
Water System, a Garbage Collection and Disposal System, and certain Harbor
Facilities, and
WHEREAS, the principle of exemption from taxation of States and
State Agencies has been univereally recognized by the Federal Government and
•br all individual -States,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of
Redwood City that it go on record as opposed to State taxation of any municipal
receipts."
Councilman Jones called attention to the excessive speed of automobile drivers. The City Manager
explained that he and the Chief of Police had this in mind and would try to regulate traffic
s
at lower rates of speed.
On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hildebrant, the First National Bank,
I the Bank of America and the San Mateo County Bank were designated as approved depositories
of City funds for the ensuing year.
31
