MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REUNOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 20, 1937 <br />8:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call, the following Councilmen were present: Mayor Paul A. McCarthy, <br />Councilmen L. C. Christensen, J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, R. N. Jones, <br />Wm. Hohn, and G. W. McNulty, and City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the meeting of September 7 were approved on motion of Councilman <br />Hohn, seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br />The Clerk read a letter from Highway Barriers, Inc. of San Francisco in regard <br />to traffic signals at railroad crossings and indicated that that firm <br />manufactured what is called the Yielding Highway Barrier, the function <br />of which is to prevent an automobile from reaching the crossing when a <br />train approaches. In order that the Council might be informed con- <br />oerning this device, the Clerk was told to write the company the Council <br />would be willing to listen to an explanation at any regular meeting, October <br />4 being the first one. <br />Fire Chief Mark E. Ryan filed a report concerning the building and conditions at <br />1004 Hopkins Street known by the proprietors as the Westgate School, The <br />Council complimented Mr. Ryan on the thoroughness of his report, but took <br />no action. <br />u <br />Charles B. Mish of 1144 Madison presented to the Council a suggested ordinance <br />reading as follows: <br />"Be it resolved that all builders of new buildings or homes erected <br />in our City shall not be given a permit to build unless it is specified <br />in the contract that a sidewalk the long way on the City property <br />be included in the specifications." <br />The point involved seemed a good idea to the Council, and on motion of <br />Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Hohn, the City Attorney was asked <br />to draw up an amendment to the present ordinance or to draft a new or- <br />dinance in accordance with the proposal affecting property where the <br />street paving has been done. <br />Mrs. Sheridan Lee, 1588 Valota Road, brought up again the question of what was <br />being done toward remedying the conditions on Valota Road. The City <br />Manager indicated that he was planning to see the State Highway Commission <br />soon and would bring up this particular item. Two councilmen, Messrs. ' <br />Fletcher and Christensen, were askedto serve on a committee with the City <br />Manager to interview the property owner who is holding up the extension <br />of Valota Road. <br />Mrs. Martha Weinrich, 1829 Poplar, asked the City to do something about the <br />impassable roads in that vicinity. She was told to come in and inter- <br />view the City Manager who could possibly work out some plan to improve the <br />conditions. <br />.321 <br />
