<br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING
<br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL
<br />NOVEMBER 29, 1937
<br />8:00 P.M.
<br />Upon roll call the following Councilman were present: Councilmen L. C. Christensen,
<br />J. M. Eva, E. A. Fletcher, Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, Mayor Paul A. McCarthy;
<br />absent, Councilman G. W. McNulty and City Clerk B. E. Myers.
<br />On account of the absence of City Clerk B. E. -Myers, Councilman J. M. Eva was elected
<br />Clerk Pro tem.
<br />On motion of Councilman E. A. Fletcher, seconded by Councilman L. C. Christensen,
<br />and carried, the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
<br />"RESOLVED by the'Council of the City of Redwood City that the herein-
<br />after described property, which was accepted by a Deed,dated the 31st day
<br />of July, 1935, and made by and between the TACOMA MILL COMPANY, a corpor-
<br />ation, the first party and the CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, a municipal corporation,
<br />the second party, and recorded on the 21st day of October, 1936, in volume
<br />716 of Official Records at page 42, San Mateo County Records, which property
<br />is described as follows:
<br />BEGINNING at the point where the northwesterly line of Rogers
<br />Street intersects the northerly line of Rancho de las Pulgas,
<br />as shown on that certain map entitled Lenolt.and filed May 7,
<br />1925, in the office of the County Recorder of San Mateo County,
<br />State of California, in Volume 12 of Maps at pages 30 and 31;
<br />thence from said point of beginning along said northwesterly
<br />line of Rogers Street extended north 470 32.5' East 606.27
<br />feet to the southwesterly line of Bayshore Highway; thence
<br />along said southwesterly line of Bayshore Highway south 420
<br />00' East 80 feet to a point where the southeasterly line of
<br />Rogers Street if extended northeasterly in a straight line
<br />would intersect said southwesterly line of Bayshore Highway; '
<br />thence south 470 32.5' West along said southeasterly line of
<br />Rogers Street extended 589.17 feet to the northerly line of
<br />Rancho de las Pulgas; thence along said northerly line of said
<br />Rancho north 580 13.5' West to the point of beginning, contain-
<br />ing 1.097 acres and being,a part of the land now or formerly
<br />belonging to Tacoma Mill Company,
<br />be and the same is hereby named ROGERS STREET."
<br />On motion of Councilman E. A. Fletcher, seconded by Councilman R. N. Jones, and
<br />carried, a resolution was unanimously adopted as follows:
<br />"RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City that ROGERS
<br />STREET in said City of Redwood City, from Arguello Street to Bayshore
<br />highway be declared to be a street of major importance in said City."
<br />On motion of Councilman E. A. Fletcher, seconded by Councilman J. M. Eva, the
<br />following resolution was unanimously adopted by a rising vote of the Council:
<br />"WIE;REAS the life of Elmore Brown Hinman closed on the 27th day of
<br />November, nineteen hundred thirty seven, and it is fitting to commemorate
<br />the great loss sustained thereby to Redwood City and to San Mateo County,
<br />as well as to his family, his veteran comrades, and his host of friends,
<br />"RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Redwood City, that we
<br />record hereby the distinguished services of our late member in his contri-
<br />bution to our local government during his year of councilmanship; his
<br />intelligent and persistent leadership in the advocacy and accomplishment
<br />of the organization, construction and operation of a port and harbor at
<br />Redwood City, culminating in his zealous chairmanship of the Port Com-
<br />mission; his indefatagible efforts in the advancement of our Chamber of
<br />Commerce and the prosecution of its public service through his director- ,
<br />ship, presidency and managership; his practical promotion of public social
<br />service through his participation in the organization of the Kiwanis
<br />Club, of which he was unanimously chosen first president and thereby
<br />established standards which have ever since been followed; his devotion
<br />to the welfare and interests of his comrades in arms in the Spanish-
<br />
