96 <br />The City Manager filed a letter concerning the proposed installation of a <br />2 -way radio for the Police Department. During the discussion, Council- <br />man McCarthy spoke of the City of Berkeley using only one man in its (� <br />prowler cars, whereas Redwood City uses the two men. Chief of Police <br />Collins was requested to get in touch with the Berkeley Department <br />and bring back a report and his recommendation. In the meantime, <br />action on the radio system was continued. <br />Councilman Fletcher.again brought up the matter of the position of the <br />U25 Miley' sign on E1 Camino Real at Oak Avenue. This sign removes <br />the speed restriction a short distance north from the Five Points <br />traffic signal control. He also explained that south of the Five <br />Points Signal is a built up section where several fatal accidents to <br />pedestrians had occurred. The City Manager was instructed to consult <br />the State Highway Department concerning this traffic hazard and urge <br />the moving of this sign to a position near Center Street beyond the <br />danger zone. <br />The City Manager submitted tentative figures for the purchasing of a bill- <br />ing machine for the Water Department, indicating an approximate cost <br />of $1600. He was authorized to make the purchase on motion of Council- <br />man Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br />The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, second- <br />ed by Councilman Fletcher. <br />Adjournment. <br />BEM:HAS <br />City Clerk <br />1 <br />
