96
The City Manager filed a letter concerning the proposed installation of a
2 -way radio for the Police Department. During the discussion, Council-
man McCarthy spoke of the City of Berkeley using only one man in its (
prowler cars, whereas Redwood City uses the two men. Chief of Police
Collins was requested to get in touch with the Berkeley Department
and bring back a report and his recommendation. In the meantime,
action on the radio system was continued.
Councilman Fletcher.again brought up the matter of the position of the
U25 Miley' sign on E1 Camino Real at Oak Avenue. This sign removes
the speed restriction a short distance north from the Five Points
traffic signal control. He also explained that south of the Five
Points Signal is a built up section where several fatal accidents to
pedestrians had occurred. The City Manager was instructed to consult
the State Highway Department concerning this traffic hazard and urge
the moving of this sign to a position near Center Street beyond the
danger zone.
The City Manager submitted tentative figures for the purchasing of a bill-
ing machine for the Water Department, indicating an approximate cost
of $1600. He was authorized to make the purchase on motion of Council-
man Pletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson.
The departmental reports were ordered filed.
The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, second-
ed by Councilman Fletcher.
Adjournment.
BEM:HAS
City Clerk
1
