�A <br />ILI <br />14INUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />NOVEMBER 20, 1939 <br />5:00 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following Councilman were present: ii. F. Anderson, E. A. Fletcher, <br />Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. W. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen, <br />and City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />The minutes of the meeting of november 6 were approved on motion of Councilman <br />McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br />Mr. Stephen Duffy, 230 Iris Street, again appeared before the Council to protest <br />the filthy condition of the sidewalk brought about by possession of pigeons. <br />He was assured that the committee was working on the matter and would try to <br />make a report at the next meeting. <br />The question of what to do in connection with housing the Littlejohn exhibit <br />was put over until the next meeting. <br />The City Manager submitted supplemental report concerning the proposed opening <br />of Cedar Street between Stambaugh and Hilton Streets and showed the estim- <br />ated cost for the acquisition of property only. On motion of Councilman <br />Anderson, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, the manager was asked to send <br />postal cards to the property owners to ascertain their attitude toward the <br />payment of the proposed assessment. <br />The City Manager also made report in connection with the petition protesting <br />the condition of property at 243 Fulton Street. Jackson E. Nichols, <br />attorney representing Mr. McNalty, the owner of the property, assured the <br />Council that certain improvement of conditions would be made, and the matter <br />was dropped. <br />Chief of Police Collins, as requested at the previous meeting, reported concern- <br />ing the Berkeley method of handling prowler cars and stated that there was <br />one man to the car, but when calls came in that two cars or more reported. <br />Although the discussion showed the desirability of having a two-way radio <br />as well as keeping the Police Department open all night, the extra cost <br />made it inexpedient at present and the matter was postponed, at least <br />until the formation of the budget for 1940-41. <br />There was ordered filed affidavit of B. E. Myers for posting notice of filing <br />street assessment and affidavit of Redwood City Tribune for publication <br />of the notice of filing street assessment. Following this, on motion of <br />Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the Council passed <br />resolution confirming assessment 1939-4 for work on Nevada Street. <br />In connection with a letter from N. C. Cummings, president of the Library Board, <br />concerning the need for a cataloguer, in which he proposed that instead <br />
