RZ <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />JANUARY 23, 1939 <br />7:30 P. M. <br />Upon roll call the following were present: Councilmen H. F. Anderson, E. A. Fletcher, <br />Wm. Hohn, R. N. Jones, P. A. McCarthy, G. W. McNulty, Mayor L. C. Christensen; <br />absent, City Clerk B. E. Myers. <br />The following Resolution was unanimously adopted on motion of Councilman Fletcher, <br />seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />"WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Redwood City, at its meeting of <br />January 3, 1939, considered the application of Louisa Francis to the State <br />Board of Equalization for License for On Sale of Distilled Spirits dba The <br />Strand, at 2025 Broadway, Redwood City, and <br />WHEREAS, following this Consideration of the application, it was de- <br />cided to oppose the granting of said license and the Clerk was instructed <br />so to inform the State Board of Equalization and <br />WHEREAS, the applicant had incurred expenses prior to said meeting of <br />the City Council, <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council withdraw its opposition to <br />the granting of the License to said applicant, and <br />BE IT FURRTER RESOLVED, that the Council reiterates its opposition to <br />the granting of any new On Sale Liquor Licenses in Redwood City." <br />On motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the following Reso- <br />lution was adopted unanimously: <br />"WHEREAS, Herman G. Fleishman has served the City of Redwood City for <br />ten years as police officer, and his work in the department has always been <br />courteous and efficient, and <br />WHEREAS, Herman G. Fleishman while in the performance of his duty, was, <br />on January 22, 1939, struck down by an automobile and suffered injuries <br />from which he passed away at Mills Memorial Hospital, <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood City <br />that the untimely death of such a courageous, honest and loyal officer be <br />deplored, and condolences be expressed to his widow and family, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread on the minutes <br />of the City Council and a copy be mailed to the family of the deceased." <br />Adjournment. <br />k.E <br />City Clerk <br />1 <br />11 <br />i I <br />
