12 <br />seconded by Councilman McCarthy. <br />Letter from Lena R. Gorse, Clerk of Robin Hood Circle No. 517, Neighbors of Woodcraft, <br />endorsing the idea of covering the creek between Middlefield and Broadway, was ordered <br />filed. <br />Robert L. Whitaker, 22 Woodside Road, requested permission to use his trailer as sleeping <br />quarters on the same lot on which his cafe is located. After some discussion, it was <br />decided on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Hohn; to deny the <br />request•. I- - <br />Request was made that the Ramblers Club of Menlo Park be given permit to put on the annual <br />boxing show for the Lions Club in March. Permit was given on motion of Councilman <br />Fletcher, seconded by Councilman McCarthy. <br />Permit was given, on motion of Councilman McCarthy, seconded by Councilman Anderson, to <br />Louisa Francis to conduct a restaurant at 2025 Broadway. <br />There was read a letter from the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce asking that there be <br />some follow-up in connection with the State Highway Commission promise to widen E1 <br />Camino Real. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the letter and to say that it was <br />the belief of the Council that it would be imprudent to follow-up the matter at this <br />time. <br />W. Silva from the Five Points Area spoke before the Council and also presented a petition <br />signed by some 55 people requesting something in the way of a playground and recrea- <br />tional field in that'part'of the city. The City Manager explained that this matter <br />• had been under consideration for sometime and that arrangements had been made to <br />acquire property for the purpose. He asked that the Council authorize him to ac- <br />quire Lots 3, 4 and 5 of Block 5, Redwood Villa Park, at a price not to exceed $600, <br />payable, if .necessary, $300 this year and $300 next year.. Authorization was given on <br />motion of Councilman Fletcher, seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br />S. W. Copps of the Highlands District Improvement Club asked the Council on behalf of the <br />residents of the Emerald Lake area if lower water rates could be given them. After <br />some discussion, during which the residents from that section were assured the city <br />had every intention of giving them the lowest reasonable rates for the water, it <br />was decided that a committee be appointed by the Mayor to study the situation and <br />meet with these water users to consider this matter further. The Mayor appointed <br />a committee consisting of Harold Anderson, chairman, Councilman McNulty, Mayor <br />Christensen, and City Manager Dimmitt. <br />Mrs. Rose Solari, who recently pu4.chased the Frank Rossell property on Main Street, asked <br />permission to have the house removed to a location on Manzanita between the railroad <br />and Middlefield Road, to be set on property owned by Mrs. Solari.
